Ok but I watch more movies from the 2000s than from the 2020s.
Thats also partially because they were told fillers dissolve and to keep getting them, when actually fillers migrate and continue to absorb water and grow, leading to puffy "pillow face".

Give Fall: Dodge In Hell a try. It has a few characters from Reamde but nothing to do with it so you don't need to read that one. Its an amazing idea about realistically what building the singularity could look like. Starting with one digitized mind.
Diamond Age is the most important science fiction book of all time... until you get to 2/3 of the way through and the guy in the ... underwater? hippy? drug dream? It never recovers.
A couple of years ago I got two call/email pairings from recruiters at the same company about three hours apart. With the same (Indian) name so I was confused. "Didn't I talk to you three hours ago?"

Yes I used to be naive enough to answer calls from random 3rd party recruiters.

Ah but can it reply snarkily and close your ticket as a duplicate that is NOT A DUPLICATE? If not it will never recreate the real stack overflow experience.

What was their citizenship? My guess is there are security clearances involved.

How dare you point that out on a discussion about gatekeeping being treated like a good thing.

Being on uber one does not prevent this. You get priority by paying another $3 to be priority, nothing else.

And Tubi
Its the next blockbuster series. If my mother, who claimed murderbot was too complicated and has never played video games loved it... the series has legs.

Nope. My mixer, which I put off buying for years, came out of the box much worse than my mothers 50 year old model.

It doesn't actually move slowly at the stir speeds and sounds atrocious.

Reduce reach but doesn't penalize accounts seems a pretty reasonable compromise. Most of this article is just "things I don't like should be illegal" which is no standard for a society to live by.
Re:Should you add screenshots to documentation? on Saturday December 16, 2023 @04:15PM (#38667747)
This is what I was going to say. Nothing more frustrating than trying to find an option that has been moved somewhere else (why is android documentation the worst about this). At least with a screenshot you know it is either where they say it is or that you need to find a different tutorial.
Re:How to Compete with Patreon on Sunday October 08, 2023 @12:40PM (#37812003)
This for me. I don't use patreon perks for the people I support on an ongoing basis. I have subscribed for perks (templates for some productivity tool) and then unsubscribed a couple of months later, but that wasn't an ongoing creator I watch all the time. I guess getting my SMBC comics by email is convenient but I already have an RSS feed reader and early access isn't important.

Justwatch refuses to show me multi channel searches without amc+, for some reason. Either a really annoying advertising plot or a glitch with my account.

Its frustrating that over and over you say "comparable to" rather than a number.
Re:Big cuts coming for CNN+ after slow start on Tuesday April 12, 2022 @02:30PM (#31006571)
Here is an article saying their total tv viewership in the demo is just 126,000 a night. (Older than the demo seems more likely to me to be people that are going to keep paying for cable and thus be less willing to substitute a streaming service, you may or may not agree. In that case it comes up to 500,000 a night.)

https://www.forbes.com/sites/markjoyella/2022/02/21/cnns-rat...

How can they seriously think they could quadruple their current cable viewership with a paid app in a year? "expected to bring in around 2 million subscribers in the U.S. in the service's first year and 15-18 million after four years."

Re:The fake artists problem on streaming platforms on Tuesday April 12, 2022 @02:22PM (#31006472)
If generic jazz can easily substitute "important" jazz it just means your important jazz doesn't have the value you ascribe to it, especially not in the context of "things for background music."

I don't think this is saying anything about more active music consumption where people are actually listening to it. I personally get annoyed if more than 20% of a mix is songs I haven't already upvoted so there isn't a lot of room to bring in weird knockoff artists into my streaming--in fact I saw a recent article that talked about the current problem with streaming is that 90% of profits come from titles older than 18 months so it is harder to break through with new songs (the opposite of radio-driven sales where most profits came from new albums). That seems to be the opposite of "no one cares what they listen to so spotify can just redirect profits wherever they like."

Storygraph also doesn't have an api, unfortunately. If they did I'd jump over wholeheartedly.
Not if it gets trashed by the residents.
