Re:“Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically

This is false dichotomy. Many mathematical achievements were produced while looking at practical problems: Fourier is a good one. For every mathematician that accidentally made a practical contribution, there are many more that produced nothing of value, and would have with a better tuned reward function.

Or maybe we should not let pure mathematicians decide which problems are interesting, but reward the practical applications instead.

My pet theory is that "in the past" the motive for having kids was having someone look after you in your old age and not simply starve to death. In the modern world we think we have money to take care of that problem. But money is useless without kids to give it to, so nothing has changed.
My solution is to make the age of retirement to be 90 years old, minus 10 years per kid.

I'm pretty sure pure mathematics is the part of math which is not about reality.

I've been daily driving Linux since ubuntu 12.04. Things have improved a lot. It used to be the best OS for (a certain class of) programmers. It's now the OS I installed on my 7 year old son's computer. Things like connecting Bluetooth peripherals, multiple audio devices, multiple screens (with multiple DPI) are a not just possible, but easy now, and robust.

I also think the analogy doesn't work. In the plane situation it seems obvious that the luggage should be ejected before passengers, which is what the guy was asking ?

Thanks for your work. Moved my company from Slack to self-hosted Zulip after Salesforce unilaterally decided to transfer our account to Alibaba Cloud and the transition has been very smooth. We especially appreciate proper markdown support !

The slide is so bad it might be intentional. The intent would be to be reassuring enough that no one will point at Boeing and say "Boeing technical failure strands astronauts in space", while providing just enough information that in the event (at the time of writing the slide considered very unlikely) things go bad, they can say that nothing was withheld.

I find it odd that twitch would rather shut down their service than simply stop offering a free tier. They already have an ad-free service called Twitch Turbo, surely enforcing usage in Korea wouldn't be prohibitively difficult.
This makes me think that they are trying to spark outrage.

They're not, and it's a very annoying requirement. Even 5V/3A was hard to provide reliably. On the other hand, rock pi supports 12V/2A, which modern chargers will provide without any issue.

Hardcore vim user with UHK here. I actually love that the caps lock key is remapped to esc in the firmware, so I always have the Esc where I expect it on any computer I plug it in (this is not unique to UHK of course).
In fact on the UHK, there is no "caps lock" key, it reads "mouse".
