You can hold shift while right clicking to get the normal menu anywhere that it is disabled/replaced

Re:Linux touchpad like a Macbook: goal worth pursuing? on Tuesday July 17, 2018 @08:32AM (#17549200)
I tried a MacBook touchpad in the Apple store and I didn't get what the fuss was about. It has that annoying feature where when you click the cursor freezes for some period of time, which stops you clicking on multiple things in quick succession. It didn't feel any more precise to me in terms of pointing. I realise it has gesture support that works in close harmony with OS features, but just in terms of pointing and clicking it was nothing special.

That would include domains like dropbox.com or drive.google.com then?

Open about:config and search for 'wheel'. There are ~50 options for tweaking scrolling, including one to disable smooth scroll and ones to tweak the scroll distance.

Yeah, for like $700

>The only significant thing to change was American policy

Straw man - the above was just objecting to this characterisation of recent SK political changes as insignificant

Is it possible to just 'hire more teachers' though? The teachers that I had in university didn't seem to be the type of people you could just hire more of.

Re:AMD Open Source Driver for Vulkan on Friday December 22, 2017 @08:22AM (#15987204)
Why would you base that decision solely on your experience 14 years ago? The driver is completely different now.

Well, the comparison of cooking rice that way to making instant coffee is apt
Re:Firefox 56: Last Stop Before Quantum on Friday October 06, 2017 @11:47AM (#15417708)
How's the redesign ugly?
Re:Firefox Quantum Lands in Beta, Developer Edition on Tuesday September 26, 2017 @01:15PM (#15340644)
But then you are probably using the WebExtension compatibility shim which severely reduces the performance gains in the newest versions anyway.

In what way are Oyster cards/credit not refundable?
Re:FizzleFade on Tuesday August 29, 2017 @12:13PM (#15125283)
Don't the two bits of code have completely different behaviour? And the code with the bitshift is undefined on negative integers (in C). So the bottom code could indeed be the "correct way to do it".
In my experience tracking protection breaks a lot of websites so I am not surprised it's not enabled by default
"It only reduces pollution by half, so there is no point"
Except, you know, how they said that they are seeing improvements after reversing some of the isolation. Oh and the study in the article.

Because developers may need to delete large folders in Windows
Re:Life Is About to Get Harder for Websites Without HTTPS on Wednesday July 12, 2017 @11:42AM (#14753459)
Interesting, ok. I am not sure above what you are suggesting is more secure about Signal compared to HTTPS though. In both cases you start out with an address (phone number or domain) which you want to use to communicate with a third party securely. You require a trusted third party to link the address to an identity so that you know you are communicating with the right person. With HTTPS you are trusting the CA, with Signal you are trusting Signal. The CA will have checked for ownership of the domain and Signal will have checked for ownership of the phone number. After you have established secure communication with the end party, you have equivalent guarantees of privacy for future communications with them using either protocol.
Re:Life Is About to Get Harder for Websites Without HTTPS on Wednesday July 12, 2017 @05:00AM (#14751083)
If I acquire a SIM card that takes over your friend's phone number, I can install Signal and sign up as your friend. Then when you use Signal to communicate with your friend, you are actually communicating with me. How is that different to HTTPS?

Re:Will Spotify go public without an IPO? on Friday April 07, 2017 @12:31PM (#14061134)
It runs in Chrome, or in Firefox but only with Flash installed. For me it also uses a lot of CPU in either browser.
But is Khan Academy really so different to formal training? I mean, who is going to understand a Khan Academy video on solutions to 2nd order linear homogeneous differential equations if they have never learned any algebra? There is language in there that is necessary to explain it that they will have had to learn before.

It would be great for there to be more resources for learning maths outside being officially enrolled in formal education, but I don't think this has anything to do with the language used in mathematics being too terse or obtuse. Lots of good undergrad textbooks are no less understandable than a Khan Academy video, try those instead of Wikipedia.

All your examples of the problem you are talking about are from Wikipedia, but you give multiple examples in your posts of explanations of maths done the right way. Feynman, Khan Academy, Project Euler. So I guess some maths related text is written one way and some is written another way?
It switched back in a later version
