Re:People Hooked on Vapes Try a New Way to Quit: Cigarettes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:27PM (#49807582)
i know this sounds dumb on the surface, but assuming you have other restrictions in your life it works.

Vaping tastes great, can be done indoors, doesn’t need an ash tray, and others around you are mildly annoyed vs visibly upset. Cigarettes are the direct opposite of all of those. The added friction could put someone over the hump.

it’s a cut and dry constitutional amendment, it doesn’t matter if Thomas thinks the people that were in mind when it was drafted are not the same people it applies to now. if they want to change it, go ahead and get the states to ratify a new amendment.

Supreme Court doesn’t get to throw out an amendment because it’s old.

Pass/No Record is one of MITs best ideas for undergrads (that and S^3).

It lets you actually focus on getting acclimated and into the groove without being worried about the difference between an A and a B.

MIT has an incredible IT staff and they do some cool stuff. Every time I interact with any other organizations IT stuff I find it inferior. They just aren’t super big from what I gathered and probably don’t want to do the incredibly boring work of an LMS.

The one they had before Canvas was very very inadequate.

edit: also some of the more popular cs classes have custom websites and don’t really use canvas, but that isn’t the centralized IT department’s doing.

Re:ChatGPT Images 2.0 on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @03:22PM (#47853311)
do they have anything similar to SynthID, or are they just pretending that problem doesn't exist?

I know this is probably mega cherry-picked to look more impressive, but some of the images are terrifyingly realistic. They seem to have put a lot of effort into the lighting.

I think CEO of Instagram publicly admitted that the Social Media aspect of Instagram peaked around 2020 and has been declining since - he claimed it was being replaced by more group chats, private stories.
Re:Stranger Things creator says turn off "garbage" settings on Tuesday December 30, 2025 @07:33PM (#46439977)
wouldn’t something like Black Frame Insertion also fix that?
they don’t by default. If you turn on “Match Content” it will make the refresh rate match the video FPS
Social conditioning? Clair Obscur is good and was very unique, but is not 100x than “the slop big studios publish”.

CEO’s also never face consequences for destroying companies. Zaslav has run WBD into the ground and it’s currently being surrounded by vultures, and he’s still making like half a billion a year.
There is nothing forcing developers to release on steam, they can sell directly through a website. It’s not Valve’s fault no other competitor has gotten close to the quality of Steam. Epic Games could have made a dent, but they decided to try to bribe customers instead of making a functioning store.
I have their 10GB line and I could NOT be happier. Only company where I reply to their “please rate us emails"

is your argument that protests do nothing, therefore people should stay home?
Re:OpenAI Announces SearchGPT on Thursday July 25, 2024 @02:26PM (#41071758)
I wonder how good this will be. My employer gave us Perplexity Pro for free, and I removed Safari from my home screen and pinned Perplexity to force myself to use it… I found it really really slow and didn’t really add to my search experience
