Totally down in Austin, Texas at the moment as well.

Checked twitter to see what was going on and was surprised to see this started in Europe, would be nice to have some acknowledgement from wikimedia..

Re:List of countries by mobile phones in use on Thursday September 05, 2019 @05:10PM (#20890663)
I’d revise that model, as a general rule West Africa is more stable and developed than the east, especially so when your neighbors are the Sudans and Somalia..

“Normies” don’t use the word “normie”, and the label of harm applied by the SPLC isn’t prescriptivist, your beef is with the white nationalist Internet kids.
Re:Does the Amazon provide 20% of our oxygen? on Saturday August 24, 2019 @09:21PM (#20790758)
I’d love to read more on this humid forest climax narrative from any credible sources, it sounds interesting and I don’t know anything about this sort of thing really, but at the same time it’s tripping my “just-so” sensors something heavy!
Re:Amazon fires: Brazil threatened over EU trade deal on Friday August 23, 2019 @05:49PM (#20783013)
The Amazon basin is 2.1 million square miles, the (informed) worry seems to be directed mostly at the almost virgin State of Amazonas where fires are in line with the highest recorded since 2003?, per the Global Fire Emissions Database in your link.

You disagree with the idea that eating matters more than exercise because your literal climb to the top of a mountain shaved off an extra Big Mac meal in calories?
Re:Updating our advertising policies on state media on Monday August 19, 2019 @03:32PM (#20740996)
That link is pointing to a research paper on the intersection of media and politics, not Twitter’s advertising policy for state run media?
Re:Updating our advertising policies on state media on Monday August 19, 2019 @03:26PM (#20740941)
But are Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index, the Economist Intelligence Unit Democracy Index, the European Journalism Centre’s Media Landscapes Report, the Committee to Protect Journalists, and UNESCO's framework also all US government funded with studies showing they’re biased towards countries that are aligned with US foreign policy?

Missing the forest for a tree a bit here.

Re:Funko Pop became a $686M business on Friday August 16, 2019 @10:27AM (#20715469)
Content is often tinkered with on HN by the two mods but it’s usually noted and for a purpose, might be one of them just really likes pops.
Re:The Population Bust on Thursday August 15, 2019 @01:03PM (#20707153)
You don’t have a culture if it doesn’t change, you have an ideology.
GGS has itself been served repeatedly since its publishing, it’s not at all taken seriously.
Re:Racket: Lisp for Learning on Thursday August 08, 2019 @12:42PM (#20646086)
I know it’s java, I know it’s big and bloated and gross but at some point give IntelliJ idea a chance if you like the ide experience of vs code & ts! It’s mindboggling coming from editors & terminals
Re:Germans Grow Frustrated with Their Slow-Poke Internet on Monday August 05, 2019 @03:37PM (#20617922)
This expectation & comparison is part of why “Death Valley Germans” is such a meme.
Re:AR will be startup dominated, VR will not on Sunday August 04, 2019 @02:13PM (#20608228)
Were you in NYC by any chance? I’ve heard of something similar happening twice here now
Re:The Water Wars of Arizona (2018) on Saturday July 27, 2019 @11:25AM (#20542422)
Why would you bother to hold such an absurd little idea for so long without caring to look into the actual water usage in desert regions?

Is it a lack of concern for the idea, or the people?

Re:Notes on a Smaller Rust on Thursday July 18, 2019 @09:12AM (#20469379)
Do TS and Kotlin support them now? Last I checked TS was relying on string comparisons and Kotlin wasn’t even bothering outside sealed classes
Paywalled and the title here is quite different from the source, did BI change it?
Re:Literate Commits (2016) on Friday July 12, 2019 @02:19PM (#20423031)
Python and Rust go the “documentation test” route as well.

Go goes the opposite direction with “testable examples” that are written alongside test code and added to generated documentation.

Re:Ten Years of Erlang on Monday July 08, 2019 @01:33PM (#20384806)
Is there a shared code story with native iOS and android apps written in objc/swift & java/kotlin?

Re:Making Direct Messages Reliable and Fast on Monday June 17, 2019 @06:01AM (#20201396)
That may be, yet it was story nobody in that thread was talking about save for you.
Re:Australia’s surprising disregard for free speech on Sunday June 16, 2019 @04:13AM (#20194434)
There are no claims to the contrary in this thread, or this article.
Re:Making Direct Messages Reliable and Fast on Saturday June 15, 2019 @06:15AM (#20189276)
What’s done in the backend matters slightly less in the thread of an article entirely concerned with the client.

Re:OCaml 4.08 on Friday June 14, 2019 @03:06PM (#20185762)
Did you check out F#? I’ve never personally used it, but I know it takes advantage of the .NET ecosystem (and with .NET Core, is no longer tied solely to windows).
These sorts of completely out-of-left-field’s-left-field beliefs absolutely fascinate me, I’m not being disingenuous here.

Are you part of a proper subculture that engages with this? If so, where do you all hang out, what do you read?

What was the issue with F-22 raptor? I’m mostly aware of the F-35 ongoings but the raptor was a bit before my time
Re:I am a Web Dev And I am Burnt Out on Wednesday May 29, 2019 @02:41AM (#20037388)
I am a One Person Agency And I am Burnt Out*

Only one of the complaints is technical related, the rapid pace of front end development to someone who’s “skipped Node, RoR and Python”.

As a “web dev” for the past two years, previously elsewhere, who has never worked in an agency, none of this applies. The front end pace absolutely would have two or three years ago, but things have generally stabilized.

Re:Show HN: A dead-simple Trello-like TODO manager on Sunday May 26, 2019 @05:33AM (#20014017)
This looks absolutely fantastic, what’s the catch?

Do you know of any other apps that use this App Store + native iOS and macOS client model by the way? I’ve never seen this done properly before (i.e. no electron, cross platform UI)

I hope you’re not a citizen of a signatory to the Berne Convention of 1886 which 90% of the world is part of either, 20 years not being much difference when it comes to principles of “US standards” and all.
