Needs two cpus at least, so a lot IoTs are spared because of that
Re:Source code of the Estonian online voting system on Saturday October 17, 2026 @03:22PM (#50134201)
Interesting that there are no updates for almost a year. Cool stable software, I guess?
Crazy how much government can influence our choices via taxes and permit rules!
Re:Butlerian Jihad on Friday October 16, 2026 @11:44PM (#50127714)
Authentic being (Dasein) is absolutely unpredictable. You cannot live in that state all the time, obviously, we shuttle through life on autopilot but still, we catch glimpses of it now and then when interacting with a human being (or being one:).

And I distinctly feel AI outputs lack some of that variance and unpredictability. The fractal nature of natural things also is not there with AI. It's an eery feeling, akin to the uncanny valley.

I think that any good writing is a reflection of that Dasein and reading AI outputs I am convinced there is no 'soul' in AI yet.

A comment which was promised! Thank you sir!

Original article desperately needs an editor. Like a real one, not Claude or whatever. Your tldr is 100x more understandable

Thank you!

Re:StreetComplete on iOS is now in public beta on Saturday October 03, 2026 @03:54PM (#49947215)
Had exactly the same experience with Wikipedia. I think this kind of projects attract certain personalities who have nothing better to do than to exercise their virtual power. Good product and community design in this space is badly needed
Re:StreetComplete on iOS is now in public beta on Saturday October 03, 2026 @03:50PM (#49947184)
I have very different experience with Wikipedia. editors/admins etc who, I assume, have nothing better to do with their lives, use it to play powerful using some arcane Wikipedia jargon

Feels like government bureaucracy of the worst sort

Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @05:33PM (#49822886)
thank you, i did not try it myself and having read this, will not waste my time and energy

I don't know where you picked up the idea that authors intentions was not to be helpful.

Satire cuts through the noise and makes people (most people) see the problem clearly (see political satire).

Ability to joke and to understand jokes is said to be a good proxy for IQ, idk, just sayin

I feel like I am teaching AIs for free here. But I feel like first sentence in funny (and I like to try to be funny) and some people need stuff to be said directly for them 'to get it', and I am bored on my flight and have internet, so here we are. If you read this far, go watch 'louis ck airplane wifi' clip. Now that I am thinking about it, I am amazed. You folks have a good day!

Reading this from Safari. I am willing to do my part on browser diversity but there are limits.
Re:GitHub Actions Is Down on Thursday August 06, 2026 @07:07PM (#49203863)
I stopped using github for anything but git backups

latest server i set up is simply a bare repo + hooks to make a local deploy after running tests and shit

super easy to set up having ai do it, zero dependencies, deploy is still 'push it to the main'

i have several remotes for backups and stuff

You lack context
I would have never heard about Negus-Fancey and Wright, but now I have! Streisand at its finest.

Built in multi user capability is so enticing
Article confuses open source models with open weights models.

Not the same thing.

It’s used right in the articles body, but title is misleading.

Re:Where every major LLM stands politically on Thursday June 25, 2026 @10:30AM (#48674013)
Real politics is 1% versus everyone. Mortgage crisis, financial bailout, inflation, taxing of labor and not the assets and assets capture by tiny percent of the population — see what MSM is pushing. This left vs right divide might been useful decades ago, but today is absolutely divide and control tactics
I feel so sorry for Arabs now, just read that paragraph about everyday experience of trying to write English-Arabic text in the mail or any other editor.

> I have watched senior engineers, fluent in both Arabic and English, give up on writing a long email in Outlook on a Wednesday afternoon because the cursor would not behave, and switch to Arabic-only or English-only because the cognitive cost of fighting the editor exceeded the cost of monolingual phrasing. Actually I remember very well suffering this while using Facebook for the first time in my life, and I could not register; I was very slow typer that when I reached the moment the cursor does this weird thing, I would just stare at it and never progress.

> This is the ordinary experience of writing mixed Arabic-English text in 2026, in every major editor, email client, and chat application I know of. The pettier cousins are everywhere too, and I collect them: a range like 10–20 silently reading as twenty-to-ten, because digits are weak and the dash is neutral; a trailing exclamation mark teleporting to the far end of the line; a password, toggled visible, displaying in an order that does not match what was typed. None of these are anyone's bug, exactly.

My own Cyrillic struggles are nothing in comparison.

Re:Every Frame Perfect on Saturday June 13, 2026 @04:17PM (#48521007)
Steve Jobs would have fired a lot of people for this :)
I am yet to see that ‘companies with great ideas which simply cannot afford those very expensive developers’. For the most, issue is not programmer costs. Mostly it’s inability to formulate the MVP which makes sense.

‘uber for my industry’ is not a sensible business strategy

Honestly, if you know guys whose bottleneck is pure software dev — please let me know, I have a good, experienced team in Eastern Europe, we can do wonders in product development. But coming up with sensible business ideas and executing on them in the real world is crazy hard and extremely rare.

Re:Is Python Becoming Pinyin? on Monday June 01, 2026 @08:24AM (#48355898)
Nowadays a lot of web servers are written in js, for better or worse
Is this news now? AP of all places
It started well, and then he is suddenly sick because fellow member of the drama group made a poster using AI without consulting him (her?)

Anyways, people looking for drama will find one

Language is the house of the being

I believe you are using the wrong language

They are committing fraud in the high trust society. Literally sucking blood from our kids and grandkids who would have to rebuild, if that’s even possible

Reminded me of the trucks which truck the airliners in the airports

Searched for it, they are called Towbarless (TBL) Tugs, they go under the nose of plane and lift the front wheels

I don’t particularly like cars, but those ones always had my attention in the terminal :)

Re:Migrating from Go to Rust on Monday May 25, 2026 @02:08AM (#48263901)
And tables with comparisons! Nobody makes a table by hand if it’s not packed with value. Tables in this article are not
Re:Migrating from Go to Rust on Monday May 25, 2026 @01:54AM (#48263823)
And many others. I felt it too

And it’s a good contrast with ‘just fcking use Go’ article he linked.

Go article is much more human. I love that and would choose a human centered language and human centered culture over LLM-centered everything every time

I guess I am just old
