AI inflicted the 4th narcisstic wound on humanity, the other three being Copernican, Darwinian and Freudian, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_injury for the background.
Re:Git for US Legislation on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:10AM (#50269813)
It's the European law, inspired mostly by French, IIRC. Belgium has the same, for instance.
Buy, like they dud with Github.
Re:No Signs of AI Payoff Outside the Tech Sector on Monday October 26, 2026 @08:21AM (#50242440)
I regularly see awfully wrong automatic translations on youtube in all kinds of videos.

Tell this to the Académie Française.

He meant tptacek.

Publishing screenshots and the README on GitHub but not the code is sneaky at best, deceiving at worst.

So the article starts with a quote from the pgrust guy from the cheating debacle https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50205816
She says the full-time member is herself, and looking at her Linkedin (in/elizabethn) she isn't exactly the person who would patch PHP for the two CVEs.
The app my government pushes on everyone does not work with Developer Mode either.
Re:There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability on Friday October 23, 2026 @04:02AM (#50205800)
Because the other part of "show me the code" quote is "talk is cheap".

US institutions are on eMudhra certificates through inCommon, yeah.

AFAIU this particular chain is not compromised.

Show me the code.
Re:There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability on Thursday October 22, 2026 @07:33AM (#50193952)
Was it parroting and cargo-culting in an unfortunate chain of events?

And get pennies for the work while social media personas rake in millions.

I have more karma, and I wonder where are the hacked websites as well.
What platform hasn't had security issues?

Anyway.

CCB is overtly a marketing organization, not an IT security one.

IIRC they don't even host their own website, The Chancellery of the Prime Minister does it for them.

Also the Belgian Centre for Cybersecurity is down https://ccb.belgium.be/

Dark day for Drupal and Wordpress, heh

Also Renault 5 and Renault 4 seem to be selling quite well.
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Monday October 12, 2026 @04:03AM (#50052987)
Citizens should vote more often, Switzerland shows a good example, be we can go even further than that.

I don't get this "voting every 4-6 years" story in most past of the world. This leads either to the political apathy or to the riots, like it is now in France and in Belgium.

We have to have a habit of voting in order to be efficient at it. For the same reason, my spam filters are relaxed and every day I read a few spam messages that slip though, to stay alert of what the spam is, and how it changes over time.

Re:Programming Isn't Special on Friday October 09, 2026 @05:14AM (#50018025)
I guess the same can be said about plumbing and HVAC installations.

I think art is different from the rest in that it lost utilitarian value. In other words, Art is degenerative by definition.

Here are a couple counter-points that come to mind:

Linus explaining taste in code: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Y17hAo96I

Fast inverse square root https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_inverse_square_root

Being a humble rank-and-file programmer I did produce pieces of code that I will be proud forever as well, e.g. this snippet to control the length of $PWD in bash that I still use almost unchanged 25 years later:

    # How many characters of the $PWD should be kept
    local pwdmaxlen=30
    # Indicator that there has been directory truncation:
    #trunc_symbol="<"
    local trunc_symbol="..."
    if [ ${#PWD} -gt $pwdmaxlen ]
    then
    local pwdoffset=$(( ${#PWD} - $pwdmaxlen ))
     newPWD="${trunc_symbol}${PWD:$pwdoffset:$pwdmaxlen}"
    else
     newPWD=${PWD}
    fi
> There would be no WW2 if not for Ribbentrop-Molotov pact.

I was taght in school that the reparations the Germany had to pay to the winers of WW1 were the cause of WW2.

Proof: Marshall plan after WW2.

The same old people burned all oil, consumed all gaz and left upon the next generation scarcity and climate change to solve.
What would, then?
So many comments and none yet mentioned Linus Torvalds calling the SHA-1 deprecation a pointless churn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCr_gb8rdEI?t=11m

> Defeat in WWI brought about Nazi Germany

Defeat of Germany in WWII was followed by Marshall plan exactly to avoid the ressentiment that nourished the Nazis.

> He's had attempts on his life made

That's a dubious claim. Nothing that we know for sure. I've seen him hinting at that and at the danger to his family in interviews, but who takes his word for it?

> The decision to invade was Putin's, but the rationale goes much deeper and will outlast him

Not Russian either but also spent a lot of time out east.

Putin declared the war as a means of personal survival. The negotiations are possible only if he gets out of the way, and then, it's really important to make a Marshall plan for Russia because indeed lots of reputational damage has to be repaired by the "winners" in the Cold War.
