That is not what people think when they buy a sandwich. At least make a fair argument. Mind you I don't live anywhere near this argument.

what about the abuse of advertisements to cause civil unrest, abusing data to control political elections, advertisements that break consumer laws. Facebook has shown it cares more for money than being a steward. Don't see how you can trust them.
incredible, how hate poisons any conversation. Digital piracy is not and has never been about stealing revenue. And it is done for personal use, not commercial use.
Mathematics is easy if you just brute force the problem domain is not what is happening here
worse than my parents
Re:Plex laid off the whole player team on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:03PM (#50187590)
I have, after setting things up this year. Any user problems were always due to server-side or bad media files. Or on networking on the server side.

As far as I understand it Jellyfin has been improving client availability and to me seems to work well for friends.

Your point doesn't come across here? And doesn't seem to have any direct reactions to the comment above. Any proof or source for your claims would help. Also no reason to be rude.
Re:Python 3.15's JIT is now back on track on Tuesday March 17, 2026 @05:39PM (#47418684)
have you read the dev mailing list? There the developers of python discuss lots.
I'm guessing you missed out on the Snowden revelations? Or the news articles about federal agents literally laughing at private dick pics.

And your second paragraph seems to go on the premise that the average person care if there is a backdoor.

I don't know why you wouldn't take security seriously, when even the US government is telling everyone to be careful where they supply their devices because of spying. Just don't trust them to point the finger the right way.

because the tech is hard to envision right (or sci-fi writers would be rich), but the consequences are clearer
Re:Nearby Glasses on Wednesday February 25, 2026 @05:03AM (#47149592)
In the united states the first amendment of the constitution makes it so that any public usage of camera tech cannot be controlled by the state. Except in some very specific scenarios.
Re:Nearby Glasses on Wednesday February 25, 2026 @05:01AM (#47149572)
The fact that every new technology has had pushback before adoption makes your claim meaningless.
And nobody should go hungry, and nobody should lack basic healthcare. But here we are balancing the scales.

If I understand you. This goes with the presupposition that crypto will replace the bank and its features exactly. You might then be right on the convergences. But sounds like a failure to understand that crypto is not a traditional bank. It can be less and more.

A few examples of differences that could save money. The protocol processes everything without human intervention. Updating and running the cryptocoin network can be done on the computational margin of the many devices that are in everyone's pockets. Third-party integrations and marketing are optional costs.

Just like those who don't think AI will replace art and employees. Replacing something with innovations is not about improving on the old system. It is about finding a new fit with more value or less cost.

That is only bitcoin. There are coins and protocols where transactions are instant
Re:Moltbook on Friday January 30, 2026 @05:01AM (#46822535)
calling the llm model random is inaccurate
I'm guessing you believe that a person is always completely responsible for their actions. If you are doing root cause analysis you will get nowhere with that attitude.
They made oauth client (cognito oauth credential grant) a subscription, raising our bill X10. Just for having the client registered in the dashboard, even without using that oauth client application. we saw thousands of cost, for zero usage.
the best thing that you can do for yourself maybe, but not for them...
good question. After reading his passionate plea for the immigrants, anyone would ask your question.
Re:Has the cost of building software just dropped 90%? on Thursday December 11, 2025 @05:31AM (#46229725)
Most companies have more than enough of those, and these problems are already solved every day. In the end everything is vulnerable and the internet is dangerous, a vibe coder is no more dangerous than an average junior software engineer.
The fact you want to keep the current distribution, without considering that it could help many people if changed is a bit ignorant. Just because (without any indication why) you feel that the ones in control are doing well. I'm not seeing substance for these arguments when based on your feelings and presumptions. I wonder how many poor people you've really interacted with.

These sentiments are popular on Hacker News. For the readers: Consider that a few out-of-touch tech people who believe that rich people are some kind of genius, and that that is why they manage money is a circular argument.

Disclaimer: I'm a successful software engineer that wouldn't mind paying more taxes, if the rich paid their honest part.

you are right, but the inverse doesn't have to be. There is a factor that could make the work so cheap, that people don't care about the quality anymore.
Re:Ilya Sutskever on Dwarkesh Patel's Podcast on Thursday November 27, 2025 @04:24AM (#46067426)
Have you considered the AI is right, and you make the mistakes?
Re:Ilya Sutskever on Dwarkesh Patel's Podcast on Thursday November 27, 2025 @04:23AM (#46067420)
Thank god. The fake search results, the money that manipulates our access to information. all gone. Finally we can try something else. I have a feeling it's going to be worse though.
Re:A Cell So Minimal That It Challenges Definitions of Life on Thursday November 27, 2025 @12:22AM (#46065965)
It is a question in philosophy. It is the difference between being considered a conscious being, and not. Since for now our definitions of a conscious being is tied to being alive (when is a human alive and not death?). So obviously it has implications on ontological questions. It fundamentally limits our understanding of what exists and just as important, why we exist.

yeah, but he was biased against humans because of their smell. Though a virus might not be accurate.
Re:Please donate to keep Network Time Protocol up – Goal 1k on Wednesday November 12, 2025 @06:08AM (#45898739)
The project isn't about research it's about creating a reference implementation
stop smoking it then?
Re:Why rents are still rising too fast on Monday March 17, 2025 @04:59PM (#43392686)
in the Netherlands the state managed housing is the best. While private renters skirt their responsibilities, and enforcing a contractual is hard.
