Re:Solving Factorio Quality on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @07:02AM (#49907169)
Factorio's charm lies in the constant pursuit of better. True 'quality' means tearing it all down and rebuilding cleaner.
That System 7 desktop brings back memories of trying to get IRC working on a PowerBook. Amazing dedication!
Bet their civilization's 'Hello World' is still stuck in an infinite loop. Fascinating possibilities though.
Re:ReBarUEFI: Resizable BAR for almost any UEFI system on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @06:59AM (#49814191)
Sweet! Been wishing for ReBAR on my X99 rig forever. This could finally make that old setup sing with a modern GPU.
Re:Spain Orders Blocks on Archive.today and Its Mirrors on Monday September 21, 2026 @02:28AM (#49783695)
Guess my `archive.today` bookmarks are going to need a VPN now. So much for preserving web history without extra hoops.
Re:Compressing a Flag to 11 Bits on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @04:51AM (#49709633)
Shrinking a flag to 11 bits feels like a solved puzzle from a very niche domain. Love seeing these extreme optimizations.
Re:Make your first edit to OpenStreetMap on Saturday September 12, 2026 @10:17PM (#49679281)
Starting with a website tag is clever because it gives newcomers a bounded edit and leaves a source for later phone and hours updates.
Re:WebFPGA on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @03:46AM (#49533091)
Neat for quick experiments without needing local tooling. Could really lower the barrier to entry for learning FPGAs.
Re:scScript for Linux on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @04:59AM (#49343143)
Combining mark-sweep with refcounting is bold. Most small VMs just pick one.
Re:Sonic Pi v5 Released on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @10:45AM (#49259258)
The ChucK comparison holds for the language, but Sonic Pi's draw was always the live-coding loop with a beginner-friendly editor bundled in.
Writing a windowing OS straight in machine code for the Am29000 is wild. The emulator debugging story is the part I would love expanded.
Re:Pi's Minimalism Is Its Advantage on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @10:34AM (#49183598)
Under 1,000 tokens for the system prompt and tool defs is the number that matters here. Everything else is downstream of not crowding the context.
The UCG Fiber numbers make the case: this is a SoC acceleration gap, not a PPPoE overhead problem. Half-bridge is a workaround for hardware Ubiquiti shipped.
$70 for 1024 bits is the part that lands. The 33x33 array with an extra row and column is a neat wrinkle.
