Re:Ask HN: Accesing a vitual machine thorugh web browser? on Monday August 07, 2017 @11:33AM (#14948230)
Cloud providers will provide a console based access in the browser (not sure about AWS, but GCE and other smaller guys do, like DO, Linode, Vultr that i know of). Alternatives include 1. https://github.com/liftoff/GateOne, will need local install, pip should be fine.
Someone with enough karma should adjust the like to the non amp?
+1 , but seriously no, iv seen this blow up in professional environments. may or may not be worth it.
Re:Show HN: Stack Overflow and Dgraph = Graph Overflow on Friday July 21, 2017 @04:50PM (#14823669)
This looks like a very neat demo of dgraph, well done, how are you defining relations between questions? is this solely full text search?. Kudos. iv been watching dgraph and tried it out a few weeks ago.
I find fox quite convenient too.

Re:Introducing Object Storage on Tuesday June 20, 2017 @12:34PM (#14596031)
they chose to make their own stack afew years ago instead of going with the already available and business friendly openstack, going by the same reasoning and the long amount of time they took to reach here, it highly likely to be a custom thing.

Re:Material-UI on Friday June 09, 2017 @06:16PM (#14525019)
IMHO this is the most important thing that should be noted, maybe someone can add this link to the description/make it more prominent. A whole bunch of components were missing from @next version, now it seems they are finally here, so that means there is no blocker for guys needing to move to the new version, which in my opinion is awesome, with things like grids: https://material-ui-1dab0.firebaseapp.com/layout/grid and such that were/are not present in 0.17x and below.
probably needs to be picked from the env, rather than hardcoded.

Re:Show HN: Quadcopter Simulator on Friday May 26, 2017 @11:41AM (#14424827)
looks well done
well, with some experience, border guards will learn to spot a non-ntfs partition, that windows dutyfully reports as unformated/blablah space, so that will eventually be caught, dont rely on this to actually protect you, its more of a sleigh of hand that may be easily spotted by the right guard.

MS collects alot of metrics from your devices, not just G*g.

Anecdotal: I believe musk said that the charred outside was surprisingly only in need of a fresh coat of paint.
Re:Switching from Nginx to Caddy on Tuesday April 04, 2017 @08:36AM (#14031866)
he spoke way too quick
this looks quite clever, opening doors via a code? nice. that would certainly get my attention. One thing, are you guys doing any modelling using graphs? or is all your data normalized and stored in relational DBs?
Looks fantastic, you might want to add an example to the demo, so guys looking at it for the first time have something to visualise/examine without having to learn to create diagrams first. Really looks good.

Oh, my dear, what are you doing to me! +1
Let us jump in with our opinion (We are a startup from Kenya), This has the potential to do great good, and at the same time, great harm. As someone from this region, my first thought like mwambua, is the instant abuse by corrupt individuals as a get rich quickly mechanism, and thats my biggest worry, will this project be able to ensure that needy people actually get this, or who decides who gets it? More or less this is the only thing i would have a problem with, as integrity issues down here have and continue to ruin everything, if this program can by some means manage to rise beyond that, then for sure, this will be great, and i would definitely look forward to the results. This is my take, if you can get it done transparently and with proper selection (weed out perennial NGO dependents), this may very well be the best social/political science experiment out there. As a tangential observation, one of the reasons corrupt politicians get power down here, is that they have the means(through dubious sources, usually stolen from the taxman) to dole out cash bribes/handouts to young otherwise destitute/jobless guys. Should this experiment change the economic circumstances on the ground, the politics will also have to change, which may be quite frightening for politicians, have you guys thought of what sort of reaction you will get from influential individuals with a stake in the status quo? That said, viva la basic income, bring it ;), we are all for it, after all, whats the worst that could happen?

Should some of the concerns we've raise be addressed, this will definately sidestep the problems mentioned in haiti and other areas on this thread.
