Different people learn new things differently. Folks without a background in RE, who are playing with these tools, may also not care about privacy until they find a reason to. I don’t see anything wrong with folks taking a roundabout way of finding out how things work; Be it software or privacy.

Re:Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude on Sunday October 11, 2026 @03:03PM (#50046652)
It's a thesis statement. The subsequent text is there to support that claim. I think you should read more before passing judgement on not thinking about the problem enough. ironic.
How is that more important? I vehemently disagree with your supposition. Banning books does more harm than good.
No, It doesn’t depend. This is a ridiculous take. Of course fictional violence doesn’t harm you. Disturbed people cause harm. Media doesn’t create disturbed people.
Why do we care about the composition of the headlines?
Re:Google Playground on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @12:07PM (#49994757)
I don't think anyone, given better alternatives, would choose games like these. There's a reason low effort output of LLMs has been dubbed Slop... Slop isn't fun or interesting to consume.
Re:Reddit to sunset RSS access because of AI bots on Friday October 02, 2026 @10:23AM (#49933884)
And yet it isn’t, my personal issue that it is. Reddit has been making itself worse in an attempt to make more money for a long time. I have no sympathy for a platform that trades user experience for money like this. Worth noting that it’s trivial to scrape reddit even without rss or an account.
Re:Reddit to sunset RSS access because of AI bots on Friday October 02, 2026 @10:05AM (#49933676)
I’ve sunset my personal use of reddit because of enshittification like this. I’m sick of these platforms.
Demand outstrips supply. Efficient software is great, but it doesn’t directly resolve insufficient supply of hardware.
Re:PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock on Saturday September 26, 2026 @02:49PM (#49859375)
Personally, I struggle to find an upside in the galaxy of downsides. I don’t want to trade my agency for convenience, regardless of the topic or venue.
Re:PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock on Saturday September 26, 2026 @01:07PM (#49858482)
Why don’t you care about privacy specifically in this context?

The bubble expands to meet the needs of the expanding bubble.
I’m not sure their tax status is the justification your argument needs.
Re:Debian: Retiring from the Project (Vv221) on Sunday August 30, 2026 @03:44PM (#49502074)
Fascists don’t care about copyright. These concerns aren’t in contradiction with each other.
Re:GenRec: Towards LLM-Native Recommendation at Netflix on Saturday August 15, 2026 @03:44PM (#49313664)
No, they definitely don’t care about what individual users think. They want to make the cheapest shows possible that get views. This is why they cancel shows people love. Not enough people love them. It’s not about making “good” content. It’s only about views/subscriptions. A platform that had great content that used user opinions would be nice to use, but the enshitification of publicly traded companies would prevent that from happening.
Re:GenRec: Towards LLM-Native Recommendation at Netflix on Saturday August 15, 2026 @10:24AM (#49310842)
I dont think they care about what your opinion is.
Yeah, sorry, my point is that simply copy/pasting a press release isn’t satisfying my curiosity.
I am unsatisfied with the reporting about why this is happening. The article explanation has almost no substance. What are the specific details?
yeah, I'm not sure what your goal is pedantically picking apart my argument when the subject at hand is clearly not "open source". love xkcd though. :P
I vehemently disagree. There's no source and it's not open, the licenses are often abysmal too.
open source gives you freedom to read/edit/learn from the source code. Open weights don't let you read/edit/learn from the source. open wights have more in common with traditional binary distribution of software, ala closed source software. Only in this specific context has the entire meaning of the words totally inverted.

I can run lots of binaries on my computer that don't have source available, they are not open source. These words matter.

You can choose to use the wrong words all you want. Doing so intentionally is an interesting choice.
This is not open source; you mean open weight. These models are the antithesis of FOSS. Is it better than hosted models from other big labs? Yes, but not by much from a freedom perspective. especially considering the texts these were trained on. Grumble grumble, these details matter.
Open source != open weight. Big difference and it bugs me that nobody seems to care about using the right words in only this context.
He’s asking you to elaborate as to why you say it’s not a big deal. Claims with reasoned arguments are more productive. Otherwise you’re just shouting hot takes without any backing. Show your work.
Re:Everything You Do Is Being Recorded on Monday August 10, 2026 @09:21AM (#49243279)
They’re talking about having personas for different purposes. Very simplified Example: Only talking about topic XYZ over tor with good opsec; talking about topic ABC openly.
Re:FCC moves to ban Lidar-equipped foreign drones from US on Sunday August 09, 2026 @02:17PM (#49233998)
No, it very much depends on the application, what you're trying to do. Different tools for different jobs. Don't conflate.
Re:BYOC Is Not Just 'Deploy into Their Cloud' on Saturday August 08, 2026 @11:26AM (#49222742)
To me, BYOC will always mean "bring your own computer", which is amusing in this context.
I don’t have any data on that because chromium derivatives aren’t installed, haha. It’s not a matter of “does it work”. It’s philosophical.
