Passion may be working for 3 - 6 months to save to go to a development bootcamp or just working through it. I know several have programs to get financing to do it, if that is a possibility.
I've hired people from dev bootcamp and can say these programs are worth it. Just be smart about it.
If you are passionate, then dedicating several months to save money to go to one of the schools by taking any job while staying sharp should be worth it. To the point, you are 18 yrs old and can take the few months now of working a whole to set up the rest of your life.
Just don't go in debt. That lasts awhile, and I'm sure there's plenty of people here who have been in it through a bad startup.
Our current stack is Ruby on Rails with Backbone. We will be migrating our front end to a new Javascript framework. We are currently evaluating all the options.

If I didn't click on this from hacker news, I would have bounced immediately.
The other thing is if I can't understand their marketing website, I have little faith that I would understand the product if using it.

60 seconds may seem like a small inconvenience but it is one still the same. I host a few clients on their servers and I need to relay this information. I sound like a jackass being that I can't give more specifics on the timing of the server being down to my clients. How does Heroku not feel the same?
I am appreciative of the update but that is also what I pay them to do.
I am not debating that Uber is a huge help for getting business. I just feel that their employee conditions are not what many others expect in their daily jobs. I don't feel that is wrong.
Drivers also can't dispute their ratings so it takes one person to give them a one star which could lead to being fired. And can you truly say all customers are fair in their ratings?
The best thing that could happen for these drivers is having another company open up to compete against uber. Then they wouldn't be a commodity.
If they were not "taxi drivers" than everyone would be furious at how they are treated.
But it is still useful to know and see there are other ways to handle to write HTML.
And that is because it is more than "markup should be beautiful". I cringe when that is stated as the only reason. Markup that is simplified can lead to easier readability and fewer mistakes. It removes the worry if you forgot to close a tag and removes them all together.
I was hesitant at first after being so used to working with HTML but I am happy as ever after making the switch. I find my time is more productive and updating the html is much quicker.
I like it in my projects mostly for how clean and easy it is to read. It takes a little bit to get used to initially but it is worth it.
You are also correct in it was disrespectful and wouldn't happen if they were face to face.
BUT I do think an apology is enough, regardless of being called out on the internet. An asshole behind a keyboard doesn't use the same keyboard to say how they were wrong.
People make mistakes and when you do it on the internet it quickly amplifies.
You may say I am a little bias because I have met Corey in person. He was boarding a plane and I ran up and introduced myself after having heard one of his talks. He took his time while others boarded and was very courteous and friendly. So I trust in his apology and that he isn't an asshole in person or behind a keyboard.
Is this a big issue? No, I am not leaving Freckle - I recommend it a lot to people. But with the little time as stated previously in development, I shouldn't hold my breath. It's just an example of how communication can be presented and perceived differently. I don't want to call it BS, but that is what I think is meant in other comments here.
Whoever put together Stripe's roadmap should get a beer or at least a high five.
Consider me a fanboy (and smarter at security thanks to them).
But just as a pitch/landing page, I don't get it. If I was <insert news site> I would leave the page immediately. It doesn't show off your product. It just requests them to donate more time to find out through their own research, which seems highly unlikely.
Why not use your home page? And if that doesn't cut it, maybe that should be fixed before asking others for coverage.
Best of luck!
