Re:GNUnet 0.10.0 released on Tuesday December 24, 2013 @08:27PM (#6961843)
Okay, so brand fail. I've using linux since my first lead dev introduced me to it back in '97-98, and it used to take a weekend to get set up right, and the only help on the newsgroups or BBS's was to RTFM. So maybe the brand could work for others, but I have not seen any really positive images of the brand. Ugly Gnu ink mascot, Restrictive GPL Licence that is less about sharing and more about control, Richard Stallman unable to give it a rest. The brand isn't a good one.

The licence may be more important a product, but the licence attached to a product is not more important than the product.

Can you GNU guys maybe stop putting GNU in front of everything? It's stupid. It makes me want to avoid these products. The message it sends is that the licence is more important than the product.
Re:How to Become a Better Developer on Tuesday December 24, 2013 @03:07PM (#6960935)
Be honest with yourself. Have enough hubris to think you can do a better job than the guy that came before you, but tempered with the humility of knowing that he also was a very smart person. Try not to personalize feedback, because it's the fertilizer that will help you grow. Learn to ignore half the feedback you get. After years and years, you will see patterns that others don't see. Don't be afraid to have a respectful argument over implementation. If everyone agrees right off the bat, then you have the wrong team, or nobody cares.
I couldn't get past the first paragraph. Unsubstantiated propaganda usually doesn't come on this thick without a paid off politician spouting it.

I'm so glad I looked at the source, it forever changed my life.
Re:REST API Alternatives on Sunday December 22, 2013 @11:17AM (#6950665)
I like to start with REST, I feel it's a great canvas, and a great way to think about what I am delivering. And if I can get the design to work within it's confines, then that's what I'll go with. It almost never ends up fully RESTful, and that's usually because the complexity required in the code would impact the maintainability. And to me maintainability is usually more important.

Re:Vim: Spacebar as leader key, CapsLock as Esc on Monday December 16, 2013 @03:48PM (#6917712)
I love this idea, I never thought of using the spacebar as anything other than a space.
