Re:I Don't Understand Quantum Physics (2018) on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:04AM (#50228206)
If time did not continue into the future, it would not be observable. Therefore hypothesis that it will continue to do so is not disprovable.

As far as multiverse goes, there isn't any inherit value in assuming that the wavefunction as given actually happens, it's just a simpler explanation than trying to come up with (arguable unprovable) ways to cull the wavefunction.

Re:I Don't Understand Quantum Physics (2018) on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:27PM (#50225518)
So time extending into the future is not a useful hypothesis? Space continuing beyond the cosmic horizon is not a useful hypothesis? The past entropy of the past being arbitrarily low (vs what is essentially last tuesdayism) is not a useful hypothesis?
There's a ton of coordination lately on P6 microcode. Would love to see what twists and turns there are supporting the older isa on newer architectures
But they can, it's just not accelerated by hardware built specifically for the task

This very often will trigger cloudflare protection.
Re:ETH-68: Ethernet Audio Interface for Linux on Friday October 09, 2026 @01:05PM (#50023493)
Thank you for taking the time to write up the work properly. It's quite refreshing to read content like this after what's been the standard fare that's been posted here at HN.
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @01:34PM (#50009000)
Really with birthrates the way they are going, unless radical life extension comes soon it's going to be a problem that "solves itself".
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @01:34PM (#50008988)
And what do you suppose drives the growth in housing?
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:53PM (#50008321)
Which makes cutting back on immigration a short term solution.
Fixing the visa program is a thing that can be done to improve things across the board. Punishing individual companies that the executive "arbitrarily" chooses is dictator shit.
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:48PM (#50008237)
Housing is not a finite resource. Not building more housing is a choice.
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:45PM (#50008184)
The government will take action on this, but not cruise ship visas. This has nothing to do with "explotation" and everything to do with trying to end immigration, even of (or especially of) highly skilled workers.
Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @12:27AM (#49888284)
Yes, my history with brave involves doing that several times as they add additional mechanisms
Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Monday September 28, 2026 @12:12PM (#49880335)
I'd like to switch friends and family over to brave, but trying to avoid ads that might confuse them was kind of the point...so....
The bombe method requires a crib of sufficient length
One thing that really kills this for me is it just takes a straight line flight. It really needs to take flight data and pick a track that performed that flight so that turns occur.
I think it's coming from when he gets a question about speculative physics.

The of course anything is possible, we just don't know, but it's highly unlikely.

Re:Flock cameras used to arrest a child for playing on a swing on Sunday September 13, 2026 @04:18PM (#49688257)
Decent swing chains $250. Mass surveillance recurring cost of $5000/mo. Someone please help me budget this, I'm dying.
Re:Eating Fruit Skins on Saturday September 12, 2026 @02:04PM (#49675226)
It's very common to use a peeler to peel the skin, then keep peeling until you get to the seeds and just use those peeled strips.
They go completely dark at a very high altitude. I feel like a bright sunny day would give you a better chance of seeing a falling rock, at least once it gets closer to the ground
Re:Using the railway network as a flatbed scanner on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @12:03PM (#49347779)
Taking this to the extreme is doing this from space, which is how many imaging satellites actually work.

poe may have won this time...
Re:Spaghettifying DRAM on Thursday August 13, 2026 @11:15AM (#49287290)
Seriously. Got tired of reading the same idea over and over reworded endlessly.
Re:Mushroom behind 'tiny people' hallucinations identified on Thursday August 13, 2026 @10:00AM (#49286122)
This would be laughably easy to disprove. Just put multiple people in the same room and have them privately describe what they see.

Ikr, I've been holding out with my 2020 Garmin venu thinking this would be a big refresh

Re:The "mechanical miracle" that ruined Mark Twain's life on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @04:08AM (#49254837)
Many of the same technologies enables woodcut presses which already existed.
We are actually pretty good at predicting the long term for specific regions. This allows building codes to be based on the seismic activity of the region. Sadly this isn't something that's practical in many parts of the world
Re:Assembly Hall of Shame on Friday August 07, 2026 @07:00PM (#49217249)
I mean....there are several architectures out there which has a nop that is a jump forward. Kind of a tree forest issue imho
Re:Dates That Don't Exist (2015) on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @12:01PM (#49170774)
This is clearly the wrong way to think about it. Dates forward and backward from this flag date exist in both calendars and it's straightforward to convert between them.

Such a flag day didn't involve removing days from one calendar or the other, it switched between them.
