My 3D printer lives on the kitchen counter. Right next to the toaster and stand mixer.
Yep, pretty sure its them :)
Maybe I've been working with too many millennials lately, but personally, I wish more people I worked with were perfectionists! My subjective observation is overall commitment to quality has generally decrease over the last decade of my career.
I know I have OCD tendencies, and I've found that if I can harness it properly (mostly by just being aware of when I am in a obsessive state) I can really internalize the topic at hand and add the new knowledge/skill to my everyday repertoire.
I worked with one guy once where he wanted the "ultimate flexibility" and every data model object basically became a database table with the columns 'key' and 'value'. Trying to think of everything ahead of time has its own problems...
I wrote a few indicators on Tradestation back in the mid 2000's and had a similar result after using them with an automated trading strategy, albeit less loss (somewhere around $10k). I was trading on 3-1 margin and closed all positions before the end of the day. Very stressful, I too let emotion interrupt trades, etc. Fun to develop, painful to execute. I'm much happier creating startups! =)
"online version of our monotone news reporting". j/k. I love it.
Maybe now they can spare a human to respond to my 4 attempts to get my account unlocked?
How is this different than securities sold on public stock markets? If you hold a large position in a nasdaq 100 stock and drop a large sell order on the ECN's, you are surely going to see a similar (albeit not as dramatic) phenomenon. Does that mean the market cap of stocks shouldn't be used to assess value?
My startup has a spark card and being able to get the amazon gift cards as the 2% bonus was great, but unfortunately for some reason amazon gift cards are no longer available as one of the gift card options. Had to start getting home depot and target cards instead :/.
So its a bubble. What do you do about it? Move?
If they just put some effort into their streaming user experience, they wouldn't have to resort to these sort of tactics. Sad.
Lol, here I am googling 'astu' as well after watching the show.
But @MarcScott - remember, you can read a file in a directory that you dont have +r on if you know the filename, as long as you have +x to change into that dir ;)
"It should not be a surprise that there is rampant cheating on college campuses: If we’ve taught our students for 12 years that there is no fact of the matter as to whether cheating is wrong, we can’t very well blame them for doing so later on."
What if we say "cheating is not allowed". Can we blame them then?
We use Stripe checkout at
http://leaddyno.com for subscription signups using the custom integration features of the checkout widget. We also use it in our app for customers to update their billing information. Its great they made such an awesome widget and ALSO made it very easy to customize and integrate programmatically! We love it!
Wasn't the point actually that even in that second example, they didn't have the foresight to ask the client about the need to cross reference tv shows ahead of time?
And for the record, how on earth is this MongoDB specific? Almost all NoSQL solutions fall into this same situation.
I was at least expecting more complaints about the early days of mongo's writes not being durable... At least that argument has merit.
One little known, but very handy tip:
At any password prompt, if you knowingly mis-keyed your password, rather than pressing return, getting the "your an idiot" message (often after an annoying 1 - 2 second delay), and having to retype the command, you can actually press ctrl-U, which is the "Clear the line" bash command, and start over typing your password again.
Or the co-founders/original engineers no longer work for the once-startup-now-corporate company, and 3rd-tier engineers are left to figure the rats nest out, because of course, there are no docs.
Good motivation for cleaning out all those feeds I never read anymore...
I just bought my son a digital edition of Diablo 3 the other day. It was far from smooth sailing.
I think this overlooks all the pluses of this new "medium". How did you get your copy of wolfenstein in 1992? Travel to the radioshack, get a stack of disks, feed them one by one into your trs80? Within seconds this morning I was playing this game - with a 1000 other people simultaneously. Amazing in my book.
I would fire anyone who wrote code like this in a real app. Surely there can be another way to achieve the same result with a much cleaner and maintainable implementation. Code like this is written by prima donna programmers who have no respect that other people will someday have to read and maintain their code. I say this about any similarly-convoluted code, not just in PHP.
