Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2026) on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:35PM (#50346871)
Rapiscan Systems and its parent company OSI are hiring for service techs.
This sounds like fearmongering. Banks aren't in the business of collecting on debt. They are in the business of writing loans they can sell to people who collect the debt. This is pretty standard business in the 2020s. Not defending data centers or AI or whatever, not denying that there is an AI bubble. Just saying that this is how business is done now.

Okay who can build me one of these?
Re:Tokens Too Cheap to Meter on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @07:26PM (#49824089)
What does this mean for the people who invested trillions of dollars in these companies?
Numberwang??

If "buying the products they made" constitutes funding the company then I guess.
Re:The Computer That Helped Win World War II on Monday July 27, 2026 @05:15PM (#49075621)
I wasn't sure if this was going to be about Colossus, Eniac, the Norden bombsight, or what. WW2 happened right at the birth of real computing so there are a few examples of computers that helped. Heck there was an air-dropped acoustic-homing torpedo that had what is essentially a small single-purpose analog computer to direct it.
Re:Collection of Digital Clock Designs on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @04:02PM (#48926334)
The binary one in the bottom row seems to think that the digit to the left of of the 8s place is the 10s place and not, as is normal, the 16s place. Therefore 10 o'clock shows as "00010000" not "1010". Weird.

2300 hrs or 11pm shows as "00100011" which would be 35 o'clock. I guess the 32s place is a... 20s place? Somebody help me out here.

Re:Starring the Computer on Monday July 06, 2026 @04:00AM (#48801867)
Huh. IMFDB but for computers. I like it.
Huh. 90 minutes of use isn't very much. Is the battery easy to swap out or do I have to unscrew the case to do it?
I know what a "motor" is and I know what "electric" means but I have no idea what an "electric axial flux motor" is. I'm pretty sure it's not what Doc Brown used to travel through time but it could be.

About once a week I think I'm too dumb to be on this site and today is that day. Off to duckduckgo to do some research.

Edit: it's actually pretty simple. Here is the wikipedia on them:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axial_flux_motor

It could use some more diagrams, but it makes the gist of it pretty simple to understand.

I hate how all of networked computing is just a trillion-dollar mechanism to make me watch advertisements for shit I don't want.
Re:Googlebook on Tuesday May 12, 2026 @06:03PM (#48115206)
It's just a slightly different chromebook optimized for AI? Am I missing something? What a nightmare.
