Sometimes the infra team job feels easier…

I feel ZDR is the same as the EU data privacy shield

No, it would be hyped up even more for a pump & dump :)

It’s not easy and it feels like an unstoppable tsunami after seismic shifts thousands of kilometers away.

I was wrong about agents.

Hard pivoting into a different career, for the fifth or sixth time in my life, with a plan B of raising chickens. (Not kidding)

[Thanks for the downvotes. I guess I'm supposed to be sorry for being honest and a realist.]

I've been making people redundant all my life with automations, including myself, and willingly so.

It's only fair and logical that the redundancy machine has come for the job of the redundancy engineers.

What do you mean?

I thought it was for distributed DBs?
You can also start a fire by letting your pan get too hot, but nonetheless you make your own eggs.

Eh. Carthago delenda est? Why?

A ton of YC advice (e.g. I remember a Mondo co-founder) is "We did X, and it really worked, but it was a really bad and dangerous idea, so don't do X" without stopping to think whether X might have been the reason the company survived in the first place. Basically: do as I say, not as I do / did.

> Once 30% of the country is on it, expect buffets to go out of business and restaurants to need to shift to smaller portions in response

It's funny how a buffet in almost every other country really just exists for the self-serving simplicity/cost-savings and a broad-ish selection for customers, not to trigger overeating.

Nah, the better analogy is "don't spend more than you make".
> It's just a somewhat narrow, (in this case) inconsequential, but also valid, nitpick.

YES. You got it, thanks! That's why I was referencing #386 :)

Possibly we are talking about different things. I am not prescribing or postulating anything. This is just reality.

  Average Revenues/Sales (¢/kWh)

  End-use sector July 2026
  Residential 18.31
  Commercial 14.53
  Industrial 9.77
  Transportation 14.97
  --
  Total 14.99
Source: https://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/update/end-use.php

The reason is mostly higher consumption = lower average price.

I didn't express myself correctly.

The analogy is false.

Domestic electricity is priced per kWh, wholesale electricity is priced per kWh, the latter is, as a rule, cheaper. It is not fixed vs variable rate.

> This is analogous to variable vs fixed rate electricity. Paying the real time wholesale price is a massive economic advantage if you can figure out how to control the demand side of the house.

Wholesale electricity is almost always cheaper.

Sorry, I have to be that guy... https://xkcd.com/386/

> But I’ve noticed that most people when faced with the same person can’t help but try and figure out what makes them tick, or their redeeming qualities, or if even anything can be redeemed. It seems to be a social equivalent of “nerd sniping”; most people just have a very hard time declaring “this person is worth 0 additional seconds of my time” and actually following through.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone put this into words.

Thank you. A very compelling thought.

A number of military historians would beg to differ.

Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @01:02AM (#50099378)
That sounds like decent sized gaps between the teeth, wide jaw, not eating a ton of (sweet) stuff that gets stuck, etc. Or just lucky genes in general. YMMV.

E.g. there are many examples of people chain-smoking until the ripe age of 90+ and never having lung problems, but that does not invalidate the other 95% of the bell curve.

Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:02PM (#50096765)
Really good question.

I personally treat it like gym: it's most important that you do it, not so much in what order or even how well.

I got high fluoride toothpaste when I was a kid. Turns out, I just didn't know how to brush my teeth properly.

  1. Floss first (!!!)
  2. Use *any* electric brush
  3. Spit, but don't wash out with water
  4. Use fluoride mouthwash
