You don't decide what "RAG" means, a term that's been around for much, much less time than "database".

What if it's an appropriately scoped take-home assignment? 1-2 hours max. I would say that's fair and gives people with interview anxiety more of a chance.

Why don't they have a stake in the outcome anymore?

Of course it makes you a better voter. Because you have skin in the game.
What's absurd is allowing a minor to vote.

Such an overlooked aspect of this topic. Energy and the creation of physical resources are still major constraints. Intelligence on its own cannot magically manipulate reality to bootstrap its physical substrate.
Re:How did Soham Parekh get so many jobs?

Exactly. It's so bleak that this industry throws integrity out the window in the name of productivity.

Wrong. Many anecdotes say, "He was scamming us in the first week."

When people with no integrity or ethics defraud their employers, "it's life"?

Get real. There's a difference between a self-proclaimed fraudster and an ineffectual executive. In intention, if not in effect.

Yes, actually. Everything is about getting work done. Delivering value. If you're spending more time playing with your tools vs. using your tools to deliver value, that's not success at your job. Play around on your own time.

They could both be wrong.

For what reasons, though. Mostly disease. Irrelevant.
Re:As obesity keeps rising, more Americans are just giving up
on Thursday March 09, 2017 @08:58AM (#13829242)
It really is interesting that only in the last 20-25 years has the obesity rate really taken off. In other words, it doesn't seem like this was gradual linear trend starting much earlier. So, why didn't it happen earlier? What changed (the most)? Was it a convergence of forces reaching a tipping point? Or did a single major change occur in the 90s, such as the food industry introducing a key st of addictive ingredients?
Re:Should economists be more concerned about AI?
on Thursday March 02, 2017 @01:04PM (#13776498)
Can confirm. I've noticed this social trend as well.
However, interestingly, there also seems to be critical threshold (different for every task) beyond which the opposite urge takes hold. Take, for instance, customer/technical support hotlines. The feeling of, "Please just let me talk to a human..." In that case there's a premium on the presence of human interaction. It almost seems like an "uncanny valley" of technological problem solving. In other words, machines are useful but usually brittle. Humans have a flexibility and creativity which won't be easy to replicate.
Re:Ask HN: Do you make more than $200K? What did you have to do?
on Monday February 27, 2017 @12:08PM (#13745736)
Wow, that shrinking time spent at each company is the interesting part. It almost seems like a dawning realization that it pays big to keep moving. I wonder if it reflects a larger trend, and if so, what does this flux mean for the future of the job market?

I'd argue that front end development tools are complex and varied because the craft itself is complex and varied. Try to strike the optimal balance between usability and fine control. It's not easy. How to welcome newbie developers with intuitive tools while not frustrating experienced ones with blunt instruments. Imagine all the schools of thought for how to best achieve this delicate balance. Not to mention beauty and elegance in design.
