Re:Ask HN: Is there room for a new email hosting service? on Tuesday July 23, 2024 @08:44AM (#41045370)
General aliases are bad imho because it tends (in my experience) to attract spam... One way I get around that, is instead of aliasing @domain.com, I do [email protected], so I use my emails when i subscribe [email protected]

good balance for me...

If an All Hands meeting sounds borderline boring "All Employee" meetings sound worse than school on a weekend!! j/k but they definitely gone way to far at your company... i feel for you lol
Re:Show HN: Route your prompts to the best LLM on Thursday May 23, 2024 @08:42AM (#40453998)
A common model in some cost cutting software is to charge x% of the total savings... Win/win...just a suggestion... use picks "main LLM" and you calculate the "non optimized cost" based on that. Whatever savings you drive you take a share of the savings.
Re:How Safe Is SF? on Thursday May 16, 2024 @05:22PM (#40383363)
I've seen lots of things flagged because they arent flattering to the majority of the HN populus...
Over optimistic claims aren't at all exclusive to Tesla though... If anything we should take all claims with 10 grains of salt...
Am I back from the future, or why is this here?

Re:OWASP Data Breach Notification on Tuesday April 02, 2024 @05:01PM (#39910810)
As others have said, the information wasn't something they'd need (arguably) to vet people, and even if it was, what is the argument to keeping all those people's personal data for more than a decade... They breached the confidentiality expected, and I'm not sure this can be just considered an "understandable mistake"... sorry, they need to be help to the same standards anyone possessing or processing data does.
I got flagged for saying it was good news Israel would be using face recognition in Gaza... wild... These people are going to have to explain themselves (at least to the mirror) as to why they were on the side of the murderer, rapist, kidnappers... wild!
Dont waster your time gryzzly, the Hamas apologists are filling the ranks here on HN...
I think studying a dictionary would do you good... Being a human I very doubt I'm racist towards the entire human race (which isnt a race, its a species, but ok)...
You cherry pick because everything else you said is factually incorrect?

This will be my last post on this topic as HN is an echo-chamber, and any dissenting opinion gets flagged as if its somehow offensive to have a different opinion.

In my view its offensive to support Hamas and their actions. You and most in this echo chamber have picked the Hamas side, and its ugly and it will hopefully accompany you through your life, with whatever consequences for this society brings on (much like people were branded colaborators post WW2... We must recall that during the war itself nobody was "branded", this came after the world "came to its senses" about what had happened and how wrong that is. I hope this is what happens in this case once again. There is plenty of evidence of the attrocities committed by a civilian terror organization that blends itself with civilian population and has been indoctrinating all its civilians for close to 2 decades... ).

Bye bye and one day you'll explain to your friends or children why you supported rape, murder and kidnap of kids, women, and elders!

Palestinian is not a race buddy, look up the words you use.

Also, I never said draining our resources. Thankfully Israel has a lot of resources, enough that it supplies much needed water to Jordan, for example... Get to know the region and then we can discuss.

I also didnt say they were "nothing but trouble", I said they stirred up trouble in many of the middle eastern countries and were thrown out... I didnt see you protesting that...

I never said all civilians, but I do think that a majority of people in Gaza are involved or supporters of what happened, as such, their deaths are an acceptable collateral... I'm no whimp and I stand for what is right. You go defend Hamas... Its sad that you make excuses for rape, i dont buddy...

PS: the ICJ has already not accepted the accusations against Israel, get with the game... If you have any evidence of another army that has undertaken more measures to prevent civilian deaths please let me know. HN is full of Hamas apologists, thats the echo chamber we find ourselves in, and that is why in 1 thread I went from 20 points to 0 points... I dont give a rats... bunch of hamas apologists...

Re:Are We Living in the Roaring 20s? on Wednesday March 27, 2024 @03:45PM (#39843695)
isn't this pretty common to most analyses of past events and attempts to make proxy analyses for the future? If we had all of the facts organized and known we would be able to prevent all crashes, etc, would we not?

And apparently many people here on HN want to discredit the author's conclusions because they dont agree with them personally.

Correct... it shows the "blockade" was ineffective at being a "blockade"... Its more proof that the issues of Gaza had to do with a corrupt terrorist government and not with Israel or Egypt, their neighboring countries.

No country is to be expected to have open borders, all of these experiences have led to disastrous consequences...

Re:Are We Living in the Roaring 20s? on Wednesday March 27, 2024 @03:24PM (#39843472)
Your experiences are anecdotal but may not be the average... the relative number of people in homelessness has reduced from the 90's to today, that is certainly good.. (It has had a slight peak recently post pandemic).

Purchasing power has climbed, hunger has reduced, I think all of these are important metrics to consider...

I think people are much more polarized and that social media has brought out terrible polarity, but it doesnt necessarily mean the average person is not living better than 30 yrs ago.

You seem to forget that most of these countries have expelled these so called palestinians because they made trouble for all of those countries... Ask egypt to open their borders...

Thousands of Gazans went daily to work in Israel, to receive free healthcare in Israel, etc - in hindsight a terrible mistake which should never be allowed to happen again!

I love getting downvoted by the pro-Hamas gang! lol
"Confirmed True" based on 2 tweets (one of them from the iranians) and a few articles that all cite the same sources... lol, textbook fake... Israel could have leveled Gaza in an afternoon... most countries would have done that... I kind of wish they did and this would be over.
The approval of Hamas in Gaza prior to and right after Oct7th have entered the chat...

Those approval ratings are things most politicians would be envious of... the "civilians" are very much part of the problem there, but westerners with their cushy idealistic world views wont understand what the middle east is about... I'd recommend you listen to the voices of people from the area about security and geopolitics before you try to form your own opinion with basis on an experience that doesnt translate to what happenes there.

sure, it didnt start, but israel was "happy" defending itself from its neighbor shooting thousands of rockets each year... Yeah, it didnt start on oct 7th, but the escalation very much did. Actions have consequences, and a ceasefire was broken on Oct 7th... Let them resolve their issues now
This is a myopic view from someone very comfortably sitting on their couch... They attacked their neighbor, they will suffer consequences of the choices of their elected governors. It happened in every war in history... You just dont understand that.
You seem to be the only person with proof they used any incendiary bombs in non-permitted situations. Please post the source to these wild claims.
Hamas has been attempting to bomb Israel for 15 years... Israel built the Iron Dome for self defense, you seem to "forget" this. Any other neighboring country would have flattened Gaza from the air already...
Factually incorrect... Israel left Gaza totally in since 2006... If you need to point a finger at a blockage, you need to point 2, one of them at Egypt (the Egyptian border was even more guarded than the Israeli one). If you look at the mansions, restaurants, rooftop cafés, BMWs, Mercedes, etc running around in Gaza you'd know the "blockade" was largely inefficient (it was obviously also inefficient at its purpose of preventing weapons going in - its only purpose). The forced poverty in Gaza was very much a function of their elected Hamas government. Thankfully it will no longer be in power.
Re:PostgreSQL is eating the database world on Tuesday March 19, 2024 @04:36PM (#39759953)
I feel like I've seen this more than I've seen my parents since year!
The architectures currently seen on cellphones and most (if not all) modern electronic devices make it so hardware buttons are just as vulnerable as software "buttons"... (the hardware buttons actually trigger software which maps it to functions, so if the software is attacked the hardware button could be vulnerable - just as a software button...)

The case for replaceable batteries can be made from a convenience/durability/sustainability point of view, sure, but how do replaceable batteries improve trust?
