I have worked in tape for years. We can really tell there is a big boom after years of the market not doing super well.

You are certainly free to refuse medical assistance from whomever or whatever you want.
Re:Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:32PM (#50344944)
We are talking in the context of the future. I could have elaborated I guess.
Re:Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:43AM (#50336708)
Why would you want a human? I don't see how anyone would pay more for worse care.
This has been my feeling as well. Even less so actually. There are realllly good games release nowadays. Like literally insane level of quality. But you also get an insane amount of stinkers. And those stinkers are increasingly coming from AAA studies.
Re:It's the Memory Latency, Stupid on Sunday November 01, 2026 @12:37AM (#50322749)
Nitpick but 25% improvement over 8 quarters is 1.25^8, almost a runtime in 1/6th of the time.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:53PM (#50281469)
So what you're telling me is that Apple is willing to put multiple generations of devices out to pasture because in the future they intend fix it with a new platform. That does not inspire confidence that they now care about thermals, the opposite actually. What you're saying is that they again might have slipped up and we need to wait for the next redesign for it to improve.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:52PM (#50280745)
Yes, but there was ample time for Apple to re-design the thermal system of their macbooks. Instead they kept releasing extremely thermally limited devices year after year.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:44PM (#50279792)
That would be excusable for a generation of macbooks. Not over multiple generations.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:13PM (#50279281)
I hope so. I just see Apple going down the same dark path they used to before the M series laptops.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:45PM (#50278914)
TBH this is one of the things that will be a clear downgrade imo. Weight reductions and thinness are not free. The Pro and Max chip version are already over powered for the cooling system the current macbook pros have. And now they are further cutting into the laptop...
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:32PM (#50277463)
Very worried to see it's 1mm thinner. The existing macbook pro was already struggling way too much with heat. And now they shave off 1mm.
Re:Behind the scenes at the NeXT Computer office on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:36AM (#50241687)
Calling it something extremely negative like a cattle pen makes clear that you aren't even open to consider anything but the negatives.
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:33PM (#50233380)
You can do that? You have a million people ready to go? Whereas a singular person on a rich country salary can actually go out and start vast amounts of agents. I'm honestly perplexed by your argument. Most people would struggle to find even 5 people who will join them on a journey to build something that takes a long time. And you are just casually throwing out there "Well someone can just gather a million people".
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @11:29AM (#50232613)
Well not really. The point is "There are some things that are sped up by a very large factor, easily over 1000000x.", this is obviously referring to wall clock time. Not "agent time".

Yes companies/large groups of humans are sometimes also a lot at doing some things than a singular person. I'm not sure why that matters or what your point with that is.

Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @10:45AM (#50232107)
I don't think you are supposed to multiple the number of agents with the time. After all a single human can run arbitrary number of agents. Still 1000000x speedup is a few order of magnitude too many imo.
That's moving the goal post. I was responding to this line in your comment:

> so turning over control to AI companies where no human ever sees the patient is a no brainer

Using an open weight model turns no control over to an AI company, even if that model was created by some AI company.

I'm not sure what AI companies have to do with it. Open weight models are available and work great, literally today kimi K3.1 pro was announced and goes toe to toe with closed models. You are tying AI usage to bigAI and that is unfounded.
I think it won't happen because people just care to much for performance. You already see this now. You see a ton of rewrites moving to rust even from higher level languages.
People are really not as black and white as you are making them out to be. Most coders cared both about writing the code and the end result.
Of course, and then AI will give you generic canned things to build. It cannot (yet) read minds. I don't understand what you wanted to make clear to me with this.
Re:Rust Port of TypeScript (Tsc) on Sunday October 18, 2026 @10:38PM (#50147747)
We are not talking about MVP, we are talking about finished products. Each of those can be done by a single person now in weeks. Before it was years.
I think one form of cognitive labor will remain: What do we actually want to do/build. And this is simply because AI does not know our internal world. Maybe in a few years with some kind of BCI that is extremely good. But I don't see it happening at least for a few years.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:23PM (#50145119)
Yes, because someone who is so dedicated they make a throwaway account to bash Musk is someone whose mind is open to be changed.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:28PM (#50124170)
I don't get it. Musk has an insane track record of shipping things. Well later then he claimed but he usually gets it done. I'm not seeing anyone else leading companies that upended the domination of fossil fueled cars, paved the way for brain implants, build re-usable rockets and create global access to the internet.
Re:Why We're Banning AI on Thursday October 15, 2026 @04:59PM (#50110137)
I see this sentiment a lot more recently and I don't understand it. Why is it "backhanded" if someone uses AI to create something. I don't see the connection with ease of creation either.
Re:The Double Headed Stack Allocator on Thursday October 15, 2026 @02:14PM (#50107824)
I certainly would not appreciate hourly crashes, don't get me wrong. But inconstant frame pacing makes me queasy. It's not low frametimes that is the issue, it's the inconsistency.
Re:The Double Headed Stack Allocator on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:42AM (#50100537)
It depends a lot on the person I guess. But I'd gladly trade, let's say hourly crashes, for great frametimes.
Re:Bevy 0.20 on Monday October 12, 2026 @05:29PM (#50063303)
Video games are pure functions of list[inputs] -> list[output]. Where the input are timestamped HID events and the outputs are video and audio, and in some cases stuff like rumble. The equivalence suite can treat the entire game implementation like a black box. Let AI generate millions of sequences of inputs that play through the game in various ways. Check for equality on the outputs with the same game but on the prior bevy version. Simple, very effective. Slight quirks game be dealt with as needed by allowing slight timing mismatches, slight or specifically allowed pixel differences allowed under certain traces etc.

I'm really not sure what was not clear about my statement of "Make the AI play the game pre and post bevy update. And difference down to a pixel can be flagged."

Re:Can AI automate AI R&D yet? on Sunday October 11, 2026 @08:05PM (#50049518)
I would love to see them come up with this. And I will gladly await AI to smash through it in short order.
