Re:ChimeraOS: Instantly turn any PC into a gaming console on Tuesday August 08, 2023 @05:09PM (#37055495)
Cool, the biggest issue for me when I was trying to do the same thing (turn my beefy PC to a "gaming console") was the ability to turn it on with gamepad. I've spent a lot of time researching it and have not found a reliable solution.

Re:Show HN: Dog API on Tuesday December 27, 2022 @07:47AM (#34148159)
Learning wise there is no advantage, but for it to be actually useful for people that's a better option imo.
Re:Humans.txt on Friday November 25, 2022 @07:35AM (#33741811)
How about pets.txt? My cat contributes a lot to my wellbeing so it was a tremendous help while building a website, I am sure people would like to know it.
Re:Show HN: I made a pretty relaxing puzzle game on Wednesday November 23, 2022 @08:06AM (#33718675)
"Relaxing" and at the same time counting number of clicks right next to Ideal number of clicks doesn't work very well for me :(
Re:Can't Unsee on Monday November 21, 2022 @11:21AM (#33694277)
Who made this must be really proud of themselves and believed they did a good thing. As we all know, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"

"Correct" my ass

Just start with the standard library and you will be OK, in Go there is rarely a _need_ for some kind of framework to get going as I assume it is in JS.
Re:A next-gen crawling and spidering framework on Thursday November 10, 2022 @11:59AM (#33549493)
What is "next gen" in this implementation? Chrome support?

IMO the hardest things in distributed crawling at scale are a good URL frontier, priorities, rate limiting and things like that, which are quite often overlooked.

This article seems to be written by AI for sure.

Well, the agency's reputation is not very good so we'll recover by playing "it's all for great good & people" card.
I'm genuinely curious if NSA opened up ghidra because of Snowden or not.
a slightly better version of Obsidian for people who don't really like markdown
federated apps never really took off imo, maybe because it matters only for a small fraction of people who's concerned about security or selfhosting or whatsoever else tech people care about nowadays
Not just that, it is a "webapp". When did ImageMagick became old?
Re:I Violated a Code of Conduct on Wednesday October 28, 2020 @11:00PM (#24926675)

People are so fragile nowadays on the internets. how come?

Re:Build a Game This November with GitHub Game Off on Tuesday October 27, 2020 @06:55PM (#24913015)
Does the participating game have to be open sourced? Can't find the info on blog.
afaik it is against Google TOS to scrape data from their services e.g. play store but I can't find the evidence now. Some mobile store analytics agencies do it very carefully seizing the risk of their google account being banned forever. Haven't heard the precedents, still.
Re:Bongo Cat on Friday October 23, 2020 @05:38AM (#24867581)
Sad state of JS frontend. Overcomplicating things is the first thought that we have now, then we think about the requirements.
Just curiosity, have you made any $ through donations? I consider doing full time open source development in similar niche (game servers, twitch related tools). Searching now for success stories. Hope to make a little cash via donations but not going paid/closed software model.

Re:Neal Stephenson: Why I Am a Sociomediapath (2015) on Wednesday January 06, 2016 @10:59AM (#10851170)
>Then there's the entertainment aspect: What's wrong with "wasting" time if you're enjoying yourself?

About the entertainment aspect. I think the point here is following: modern web media/pics/etc is too attractive and people can't focus on things what really matter. Every website with "funny cats" tries very hard to retain you as user and your attention -> entertain you more. I think many people (myself included) fall in risk group and can't actually measure/control time spent on procrastination while browsing infinite number of subreddits or something for interesting stuff. Even when i really need things to be done - there is something that can immediately capture my attention. And I have to say I am not alone.

The root cause here is inability to focus on important things and finally quit procrastination.
