I’d like to know more about what changed in the last few years that’s pushing more and more merchants to pass the card fees on to customers. Is it just thinner margins and more precarity everywhere? Is it changes in the legal/regulatory environment? Or has it just become more acceptable?

The Google Calendar app has a long standing bug where the search view will not show the latest calendar entries unless you manually scroll to the bottom and hold the scroll view there. It’s been like this for years despite repeated bug reports!

I wonder if they fixed the vehicle definition file as well, or just the parser. The latter would be an incomplete fix.

This isn’t my area of expertise but I’m surprised there’s no mention of errata. Is that just not a factor at this point because the firmware is assumed to be mature enough?
Re:The Next Chapter in Swift Build Technologies

This is great, if for no other reason that it will give people the ability to debug build issues on their own and get access to fixes without having to wait for the next Xcode release.

Re:A decade-old Steam bug

Great write up, but it left me with a few questions:
* Is levelloadloop only executed when the game launches, not when joining a server and loading the map? * If the issues is that the loop is shut down before the steam auth process is started, why would the maintenance-related slowness matter?

I don’t think you can unless you have a jailbroken device. If I remember correctly, entitlements are store in the AppStore receipt file.

That’s for sending and receiving local network traffic, eg. talking to devices on the same subnet, and discovery of Chromecast and similar targets.
Edit: AirPlay does not require this permission.

Re:Supreme Court sides with Slack, putting direct listings in jeopardy
on Friday June 02, 2023 @08:03PM (#36172354)
Unless something on the regulatory side changes, nothing will happen to direct listings. People want to own stocks that they believe will go up. That’s the long and short of it.
Retail investors don’t read IPO prospectuses. Institutional investors will be more hesitant, naturally, but they have the resources and expertise to asses the risks, and any public company still has to comply with disclosure requirements, IPO or no.
There was similar handwringing about companies selling non-voting shares on the stock market. Turns out most people don’t buy stock to vote it, and most people don’t vote even if they can.

I’d like to understand what the issue here is. Sounds counterintuitive to me.

If you have an iPhone and a Mac, you can use Apple Configurator to download the App Store .ipa. You can unpack that like a zip file and look at the dynamic frameworks it contains.
