You wasted a fair bit of people's time trying and failing to get any information out of you about what you had done [1].

Your "irretrievably destroyed" system was always recoverable.

Re:AlpineBSD on Thursday October 29, 2026 @05:58AM (#50286650)
I think that some of the arguments in the Apple vs OpenAI case may lead to a ruling on whether copyright gets stripped or not by running something through an LLM.

If it is established that copyright is retained then someone else could follow up on the GPL aspects.

... or commercial software vendors would roll back a couple of years in their VCS and start again from that point.
Re:AlpineBSD on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:06PM (#50282227)
The reason for NetBSD rejecting any use of AI is the concern that a future legal case will rule that the output of LLMs trained on GPL code is itself subject to the GPL due to the viral clause in the licence.
Re:AlpineBSD on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:45AM (#50275620)
As a NetBSD developer, I wouldn't claim that it works on everything.
Re:AlpineBSD on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:43AM (#50275566)
NetBSD retains the old ABI as well if anything changes to a syscall.

The Gestapo didn't really spy on German citizens, it just waited for those good citizens to denounce each other then rounded them up.

Re:The Early History of Smalltalk on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @08:40PM (#49986344)
Your original Smalltalk port described in "Bits of History, Words of Advice" wasn't on top of an operating system but the 4404 does have one. What was the reason for this, was it to be able to run the other languages on the 4404?
