Re:How employment is changing at Anthropic on Sunday October 18, 2026 @07:39AM (#50140162)
The only change in employment at Anthropic I’m interested in hearing about is their leaders going to jail
Re:Hello Toronto – Waymo Is En Route on Friday October 16, 2026 @07:50PM (#50126330)
Wasn’t it?
Re:Hello Toronto – Waymo Is En Route on Friday October 16, 2026 @07:49PM (#50126321)
As a Toronto resident I’ll be lobbying to my municipal representatives to ban waymo immediately.
Uber was a massive mistake on every level.

This is what is so frustrating about this whole ai thing is we aren’t learning from the mistakes of even the very recent past

Re:So How Is AI Drug Discovery Doing, Really? on Sunday August 16, 2026 @06:59AM (#49318875)
I hope to be lucky enough to never take a drug that ai had any impact on the discovery or study
If there isn't currently there will be very soon.
Both wild but also very obviously was going to happen with a product like this.
These should have never even been prototyped. An obviously terrible ideal with obvious many negative social consquences.

They should be banned from the market immediately.

Re:Every Company Needs a Cassandra on Monday August 10, 2026 @12:39PM (#49246120)
So many organizations need this. I've watched companies make $100M+ investments basically on group think and no one being willing to say it won't work.

The worst is when everyone privately acknowledges that the idea won't work but because leadership has committed everyone has to march on to the failure point.

I have yet to see one of these Cassandra's to be proven wrong too.

Re:No Data Centers in My Backyard on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @07:06AM (#49181128)
Solid article. Outlines well why no one wants these things. I hope it helps more communities fight these and ensure almost none get built
The existence of Palantir is a significant public policy failure. It is a tool for corrupt actors - both private and public - to maximize how much they steal from all of us. Their use of existing tax policy is just an example.

Palantir should be shut down tomorrow; the data it’s collected deleted, its IP destroyed and its executives jailed.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahha. Tell another joke

I have never worked a place where management was even remotely held accountable for their decisions, their corruption, their abuse of power or their fecklessness.

Unions now; unions tomorrow; unions forever.

Good. Finally. These never should have even been prototyped. Fool of an idea.
Only 20 years too late. They should have been involved from the start
Re:Car Seats as Contraception on Monday March 30, 2026 @05:49PM (#47580147)
As a parent of 2 a big reason we won’t have a third is the massive step up in transportation costs. Having to get a third car seat would require us to go from our Kia to a minivan. And then there is the cost of the car seat alone.

Then there is the time cost of wrangling kids in an out of them. My toddler can easily make it 15 minutes to buckle her in just on her own. A third would mean easily 5 minutes of to get everyone buckled in and only if they are cooperative.

Why do you trust ai so much? I don’t trust it to tell me the sky is blue.
Why stopped at the 50 states? Loop in the rest of the world
That penalty is about a couple orders of magnitude too small
Re:Is anybody else bored of talking about AI? on Tuesday March 24, 2026 @09:17PM (#47511943)
starting? it was pretty clearly a net negative from the get go
Look up the history of the interstate system - cars were very much imposed.
Why should rural areas be punished with having to use cars?
Yes it is ideological: cars kill cities, kill communities and are bad for everyone involved. They are dangerous to drivers and non drivers alike and are deeply anti social. We need less cars everywhere period.

Putting cars in cities was also deeply ideological. It was about segregation and as a way to extract as much resources from people as possible. The imposition of cars was about turning people into consumers who only point was to purchase goods and services.

We didn’t choose cars- they were pushed on societies through a decades long propaganda campaign.

I’d say 60% of the time I go to vote I click a users name instead when I’m on mobile.
The legalization and expansion of gambling was a massive mistake and should be undone as soon as possible.
Having worked in for profit health care pricing and costing yup that makes sense.

The layering on of profit margins causes costs to grow exponentially

Re:Hollywood Enters Oscars Weekend in Existential Crisis on Sunday March 15, 2026 @03:38PM (#47391077)
Hollywood was never about making art. It was about making money. That some good art came out of it was an accident of the process.

Do I want movies to survive? Sure. But Hollywood as a thing was about vacuuming up every penny it could and that I do not grieve.

Re:Hollywood Enters Oscars Weekend in Existential Crisis on Sunday March 15, 2026 @03:07PM (#47390732)
Influential? Yes. Was that influence for the betterment of humanity? I’m not sure. Beyond the slop many of the classics were deeply racist and built on immoral exploitation. Yes all those artists did great work but they did it in terrible conditions for where near enough pay.

Take apocalypse now: a great piece of art. Was it worth the pain and suffering of its production? Absolutely not.

Re:Hollywood Enters Oscars Weekend in Existential Crisis on Sunday March 15, 2026 @02:18PM (#47390179)
Good riddance. It won’t be missed. Very little of Hollywood benefited humanity - it was mostly a tool of the rich and governments to propagandize. It was just an another opiate for masses. It was built on ruthless exploitation of labour and consumers.
Well this should be banned. Or at least watpo should be required to be transparent about this whenever you subscribe
Re:Ask HN: Would this eliminate bots for good? on Saturday March 14, 2026 @11:00AM (#47377380)
I do not want to wear any smart tech for any reason.
