Re:Sites in ChatGPT on Friday October 02, 2026 @04:12PM (#49938040)
From what I can tell, "Sites" product supports custom domains so it's not an "export" per se but it is a way to map.

Re:The death of web development education on Thursday October 01, 2026 @06:33PM (#49927851)
I wouldn't go quite that far ("death" of web dev ed). there's still a very large gap in certain areas. Two off the top of my head are systems thinking or org psychology; areas that developers could pivot towards as things get more clanker-driven.

Since this posting contains an assumption that we all know what security.txt files are supposed to be, you can view these for further context:

Re:Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting on Thursday September 10, 2026 @10:56AM (#49644845)
So, the way this orange site works is that if anyone makes a reference to whatever sort of inside baseball concern ("industry drama"), we're all supposed to know what they're talking about.
Re:Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting on Thursday September 10, 2026 @10:42AM (#49644567)
Is this Settings > Data Controls > "Improve the model for everyone" or is there a "disallow training" somewhere else?

presumably its default behavior will vary depending on your user subscription or if your account belongs to an organization (Business, Enterprise, Edu?).

Re:Muse's Social Media Handle Is Stolen by New Meta AI Tool on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:19PM (#49629959)
that's how it has always worked.

The namespace belongs strictly to the service operator and they shuffle names around based on any arbitrary process and it's mostly vibes driven.

Studies have been performed and they come to the conclusion the highest performing teams are the ones with greatest psychological safety:

Re:Starbase, LA on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @07:56PM (#49442397)
Generally, the way this works is that the richest person gets to whatever they want because they own the people who write the rules, and the people with less money have to abide or change.
Re:Nitter project received cease and desist on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @03:01PM (#49438931)
as a former (and the best) mod of the Twitter subreddit and having a well attuned sense for how this will all play out it seems that X will very soon be a defunct service. We've all seen these patterns play out before.

this wikipedia page will be there for that day:

Re:Toot.community is shutting down on Thursday July 30, 2026 @01:22PM (#49112943)
don't forget to `tootctl self-destruct`

https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/tootctl/#self-destruct

EDIT: Once the server disappears, users who did nothing will lose the ability to delete their accounts later.

Without self-destruct, remote servers may retain cached profiles and posts indefinitely, but the original users will no longer control those objects. Mastodon created the command specifically to broadcast account deletions before a permanent shutdown and leave little cached material behind.

anything but the metric system.
Re:RFC 10008: The new HTTP Query Method on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @10:33AM (#48571107)
I have a thesis brewing that explores how rich text WYSIWYG editors create a "what you see is all there is" cognitive bias, while plain text overcomes it.

beautiful formatting. I should crib this style template for internal work memos, it's timeless.

time and time again it's worth stressing how the Lindy effect directly applies here to email or other layers of the protocol stack.

Re:Homebrew 6.0.0 on Thursday June 11, 2026 @02:33PM (#48494537)
Homebrew provides access to a massive catalog of software, including many tools that are not packaged for Fedora, Debian, or Ubuntu. Homebrew relies on a high level of automation in GitHub actions, which ensures users get the latest versions of tools quickly, rather than waiting for distribution-specific repositories. The Homebrew approach also decouples the underlying system from what you choose to install in user-space.
Re:Homebrew 6.0.0 on Thursday June 11, 2026 @02:25PM (#48494421)
happy Bluefin Linux user and can vouch that the Homebrew experience in Linux is great as well. Really excited for where things are going.
Re:macOS Container Machines on Thursday June 11, 2026 @12:24PM (#48492481)
had to come back because there actually seems to be a project to build this:

https://github.com/darwin-containers

However it requires disabling SIP, so that's unfortunately a non-starter for anything serious today.

Re:macOS Container Machines on Tuesday June 09, 2026 @10:59PM (#48470842)
> Literally nobody would build to it

because nobody does ci/cd against macOS or iOS apps right?

Re:macOS Container Machines on Tuesday June 09, 2026 @10:01PM (#48470398)
darwin containers when?
that's way too high brow of a reference for this crowd.
