Neither John McCarthy nor Dennis Ritchie was college dropout. Steve Job sort-of was.

2 vs 1! Don't dropout!

Does it work 99% of the time though?

Slashdot still has many excellent comments.

Just don't read it real time. Wait a day, and the good comments will be moderated as such.

Incidentally a few women expressed similar opinions a few years ago on two other forums I visited.

Really, if he used "some women" (edit: or many women I know) would you have any objection?

I actually think that "many women" isn't exaggeration.

Similar issues are discussed frequently in many forums. It's only you don't know what you don't know!

Edit: Ok. I exaggerated. But we really don't know.

Just count in binary, everything will be easier.

110 * 111 = 101010

Very easy, don't you think? :)

Re:The Carrying-Cost of Code: Taking Lean Seriously on Wednesday May 18, 2011 @05:49PM (#2561971)
I think "carrying-cost" is ok. Perhaps not for newbies, but for seasoned developers it's clear what this is about without translations.
The losts are in revenues, not units.

It's entirely possible that people opt for lower priced computers instead of iPads.

You forgot about Mac :)
Re:Celebrating 150 years of MIT on Friday May 13, 2011 @08:54PM (#2546795)
Wow. 2% of Google comes from MIT! Google rocks!!!

Re:The Node Beginner Book on Tuesday April 19, 2011 @05:32PM (#2464320)
Kind of off-topic, but I don't really understand what Node.js is about until this presentation.

You don't have to be this rude :)

Some people use Java in spite of the language: they just like the vast libraries.

Re:Erlang vs Java memory architecture on Wednesday April 13, 2011 @03:56PM (#2443885)
It looks like an entry about what Java can learn from Erlang.

It's not about learning Erlang.

I am pretty sure Java guys know quite well about various memory models. But early Java was kind of experimental, so backward compatibility affects what they can change now.

Re:Ask HN: How did you learn distributed computing/systems? on Tuesday April 12, 2011 @08:21PM (#2440055)
Is hightscalablility.com really the best place to start?

I'd thought that reading some classic distributed computing books is a must.

No, it should make you feel proud -- understanding the world through 26 (or other small numbers of) alphabets.

(Speaking as an asian.)

Re:Competition Doesn't Matter. Look at Dropbox. on Wednesday April 06, 2011 @03:43PM (#2416623)
OK. Vaporware does not matter.

I think we all know that :)

You may want to include page views of wiki page in other (human) languages.
Right. But they does not claim HoneyComb is open source.

(They does not deny it outright though. That's little devilish (evilish not a word!), but I can sympathy with them)

But it's not a job for him; it's his business.
Re:Microsoft just bought Nokia for $0 on Friday February 11, 2011 @08:09PM (#2208915)
But is that legal?

Even if it's legal, the other manufacturers will just abandon Windows Mobile 7. Not a nice scene.

Re:Microsoft just bought Nokia for $0 on Friday February 11, 2011 @08:02PM (#2208893)
Well, it's actually Intel.
