I can’t fathom this kind of thinking. It’s not a case of having to choose between the lesser of evils, it’s a case of having some principles and making decisions based on them.

You can say no.

Indeed! The pipe wrench attack, employed since valuable things existed!

You can be the multi yourself. Choose diverse hardware (ie, not all the same Ledger) and your likelihood of compromise changes significantly in your favor.

Sure, loss of seed material would be catastrophic so have a backup scheme. The point isn’t that you can make it perfect, but there’s laughably risky and imperfect solutions and putting everything on a single key HW device like this is the poster child.

Keys don’t have to be a SPoF though. Multi-signature schemes are the baseline for security today.

If that does become possible then the market will naturally establish efficiency again and the opportunity will disappear.
Re:Surprisingly Complex Waves Reveal the Brain's Inner Workings on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @08:58PM (#49916407)
What makes you think that a clock-timing analogy even applies to brains doing work?

Just give yourself time and you’ll be the target customer then!
Re:I don't want the details on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:48AM (#49816156)
I suspect the author still misunderstands the SVP. If I were the SVP of engineering saying this to someone, especially someone who is in a non-core engineering role like product, I probably recognize that they have a tendency to verbally spew and I want them to focus on the risk mitigation and response plan. I’ve already talked to my engineering leader because they informed me immediately, and I’ve already read the incident details.

But also the post reads like it comes from an inexperienced/immature service org, so maybe they’re just sorting their operational response process out.

Re:Divide by Depth for Instant 3D on Monday September 21, 2026 @11:28PM (#49796491)
At one point all of this seemed like common knowledge in software because Carmack, Abrash and Hecker (among many others) were working in the open on games and discovery. Kind of funny that someone had to reinvent from first principles!

And that perspective presumes that being loved isn’t a fundamental human need.
Then call them what they are - lies.
I just ran into a situation where I had two Claude instances working in the same repo on two different, independent issues. I noticed the sessions were thrashing a bit on which branch they were on because each was taking control from the other session. That’s when it hit me why I need worktrees.
Yes and no. I have been on the inside and watched as a very senior but non-C-suite, one who works with the officers and next in line for C. Cultures reinforce themselves in groups of people and so yes you see all the narcissism and sociopathy in action but the limits and what’s acceptable differ. Not all companies behave like Meta on the inside.
I don’t understand your confusion? Canada is standing up to bullying tactics from a corrupt administration. Yes, please, more.

And if the world would continue to stand up for themselves in the future we might have more balanced relationships.

Are you not loyal and patriotic if you see your government is bad for the people and you support opposition to it?

US citizen here. Fight back against my government, please, even when the current admin is replaced with another more benign one.

Fascinating story. The author was hopelessly ignorant and guilty of facilitating, but the execs were so devoid of anything approaching ethics or morality. Explains a lot if true.
There’s no automatic enforcement across most systems though. You can use a Thales HSM that’s configured in FIPS mode just fine from non-FIPS software.
And, technically, west of Seattle.
Why $100? Why not $80 or $5 or $134?
Is censorship not an issue with Chinese models?

To me, not just grey but an ever shifting speckled rainbow colored static with a heavy bias towards grey.
Could be Seattle tax/revenue policy. Bellevue WA, the only nearby comparable but smaller tech hub city, has 25% vacancy and expected to drop below 20% - according to Fable.
A family member took the same calculus class that I did, from the same teacher. They passed, per their own account, only by memorizing the rules. I memorized what I needed to but the concepts clicked intuitively. So sure, some people “get it” and some people just pass a subject like CS.
Exactly! I used this question regularly. It wasn’t a gotcha question or even an impossible-without-experience question as the author thinks. It was a show me HOW you think through something question. There are a lot of ways to solve it, from scanline to sin/cos to using the circle equation, but you can _progress_ from naive to advanced solutions, and all solutions above plus the DDA or Bresenham solutions have symmetries (hint: more than four quadrants are symmetrical) that you can use to optimize it. A practiced interviewer can learn a lot about the candidate with this question.
Re:GitHub Actions down again today on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @10:06AM (#48280088)
You only do this when you’re trying to use incident management as a hammer to make a point to somebody whom you have otherwise failed to convince to fix something through persuasive argument. Ie, it’s punitive.
Re:Childhood Computing on Sunday May 24, 2026 @12:52PM (#48258901)
I don’t know… if the top of line PC cost $3000 30 years ago, it seems like we’re pretty close to that today for class-equivalent hardware (without going absurd - 32GB of DDR5, game playing video card, 4TB SSD…)
Re:Childhood Computing on Sunday May 24, 2026 @12:47PM (#48258853)
Your post just clicked something from of a deep memory into place.

In the early 80s when the IBM PC hit the scene, Hercules had a graphics card that was amazing and offered better than CGA graphics. I was plinking on it at my dad’s friend’s house, drawing circles and stuff, and on HIS computer the graphics were retained. I had to figure out how to clear the screen, whereas on mine, not having the Hercules card, it wasn’t retained. Never understood what was happening until now.

Episode #103, @FoundMyFitness on Spotify podcasts. All about coffee’s benefits, including for exercise.
Many coffee distribution sites (like drink trade dot com) tell you the process. I’m a fan of the Swiss water method.
