I've never understood why people whine about upvotes. If there were no upvotes, would you not even post? Do you only post so you can be validated by mouse clicks of people you don't know?

Wow. Talk about missing the point. He's obviously not talking about how the whole hospital is run. He's talking about using selective technology to make certain things run better.

The recommended age to vaccinate is 12 months (I've read as early as six months). Until those babies are able to be vaccinated, they're at risk.

Re:A Watch Guy's Thoughts on the Apple Watch After Seeing It in the Metal
on Wednesday September 10, 2014 @07:11PM (#8299828)
Regardless of whether or not it's a better watch, unless it has an Apple logo on it somewhere and they hide the Motorola logo, then I doubt very much that that would ever happen.
Re:Stripe and Apple Pay
on Tuesday September 09, 2014 @03:30PM (#8292142)
If you're using Stripe as your payment processor and using Apple Pay through Stripe (just like choosing a different credit card), then you're still only using one payment processor. All your transfers, transaction data, accounting, etc. is just done through Stripe. You don't care that the customer actually used Apple Pay.
Re:Y Combinator to recruit more black entrepreneurs
on Friday August 29, 2014 @06:51PM (#8244874)
I'm pretty sure that "recruit", in this context, means "expose to Y Combinator and encourage to apply if they have a good idea", not "give them a higher chance of being accepted because they are black".

There's no shame in failing if you haven't taken your customers' money. "Kickstarter" is not synonymous with "give us your money and we'll try really hard, but if we fail, bummer for you".

The comment is garbage, but I don't think an anonymous, unmoderated comment is going to stop the type of women who speak at these sorts of events from wanting to come back.
Re:Andrew Warner's Mixergy Celebrates 1,000th interview
on Thursday April 10, 2014 @02:28AM (#7564480)
I've seen zero pretentiousness from Andrew in all the years he's been doing interviews. If I had to rate hime on a pretentiousness scale, I might even have to give him a negative rating. Humble-bragging about your low-pretentiousness-tolerance being a "personal fault" is laughable.

Applies to golf and pool for me. But I start off as a bit better than average while sober, in the zone at four or five beers, then I fall off a cliff after that. Relaxation and looseness apparently have a very narrow maximum window of effectiveness while drinking. Go past it, and you're hosed (but I always had fun getting there).

Re:From carpool to deadpool: Ridejoy’s startup journey
on Tuesday December 17, 2013 @12:17PM (#6922244)
I think this is a good attitude in a general sense, but I don't think failure needs to be sugar-coated. If you have a goal, set out to achieve it, and you don't, then you failed. If you learned some valuable lessons along the way, that's great. If you deny failure, I think that's being dishonest with yourself so you don't feel so bad. Failure should feel bad as much as success should feel good.

Re:Poll: How do you feel about working hours?
on Wednesday November 27, 2013 @02:34PM (#6810521)
You're jamming several different types of answers into single selections, then leaving gaping holes in other areas. If you want hours, just do hours. If you want sentiment, just do sentiment but you're going to need way more options. If you want to do hours and sentiment, you'd need about 25 different options just to properly cover what you're indicating here, not even counting all the holes you've left.

Over-the-top epidemic??? Pretty silly exaggeration. In a male-dominated industry, you'll never be accused of gender bias as a male if you use feminine subjects in your sentences. So if we say "he" all the time, we're gender-biased, and if we say "she" all the time, it's an epidemic?

Re:Copying is an act of love. Please copy and share
on Thursday April 25, 2013 @10:38AM (#5607431)
This sounds nice, but the problem is that the author creates value, the downloaders receive value, but no exchange is made. The idea that the author has to create MORE value to MAYBE be able to participate in an exchange is just a weak argument for people who don't want to admit that an exchange should take place right off that bat, and if not, the downloaders should not receive any value from the author (i.e. don't download and read the book).

If a customer was treated like this in an Apple store, you wouldn't call it a front, but it would be really strange. If a customer was treated this way in an Apple store, and Apple franchised their stores, and the owner of the franchise controlled the staffing, the argument would be valid. Apple and McDonald's can't really be compared the same way in the context of Paul's suggestion.
