Re:Ask HN: Why can't I host my own email? on Wednesday April 27, 2022 @01:51PM (#31183395)
It's doable, and it's quite easy
MacOS doesn't "just work" if you install it on non-Apple hardware. Most of the time it won't even boot. Nuff said.
Re:Rolling Rhino Remix on Tuesday March 29, 2022 @01:14PM (#30845494)
I've been running Ubuntu devel for 2 years. This is no different. Please stop reposting trivial non-news.
Re:Rolling Rhino Remix on Tuesday March 29, 2022 @01:13PM (#30845481)
No. It's using devel, plus a script that turns off the warnings apt produces because of the symlink devel in reality is on the mirrors.

Re:Web3 doesn’t care about privacy on Friday February 11, 2022 @05:47PM (#30307922)
Web3 is a scam. Go away.
Re:Spam blacklisting is out of control on Friday February 11, 2022 @05:46PM (#30307913)
People on HN seem to be unable to run mail servers. It's not that hard.
Re:Spam blacklisting is out of control on Friday February 11, 2022 @05:45PM (#30307901)
Uceprotect is a scam. Ignore it. Using it for inbound email is a misconfiguration.
Re:Ask HN: Should I give my employer all my medical records? on Friday February 11, 2022 @01:47PM (#30305434)
No.
No, because it's quite possible the "customer" is part of the "fraudulent action".

Re:How Slow Is Select *? on Sunday January 30, 2022 @02:45AM (#30134925)
In my experience (long years as consultant/admin in the MSP business), it's always the database server or the network that is too slow, and it's never the SQL query or missing indexes. Cough magento cough </s>
Re:Reclaiming the lost art of Linux server administration on Saturday January 29, 2022 @03:09AM (#30124685)
According to popular HN opinion, nobody runs servers anymore. Hipster coders leveraging AWS techno BS are never going to realize they are absolutely clueless and burning money by the ton. Same as in the gaming industry. Why bother starting from scratch. We want MVP right NOW, so just slap a bunch of random libraries together. People are going to buy faster GPUs anyway, right, and we'll fix issues later.
Re:In praise of the European drying rack (2017) on Sunday January 16, 2022 @05:54PM (#29961252)
Yeah. Moldy apartments and kids starving because they're trapped in folded drying racks are a thing in the EU. No, really.
Re:Ask HN: How often do you make a fresh OS install? on Thursday January 13, 2022 @08:18AM (#29920417)
My Ubuntu has been installed on 10.x, currently it's on 22.04. It has seen 4 or 5 machines.
Re:We handle 80TB and 5M page views a month for under $400 on Thursday January 06, 2022 @08:11AM (#29823108)
Your blog won't load after waiting for like 10 seconds. Funny.
Author is unable to run decent email service that scales, and somehow thinks nobody is. Okay.
Portable air conditioners don't work.
Re:Cloud infrastructure should be immutable on Tuesday December 07, 2021 @04:59PM (#29478743)
You can't find a fix if you "just redeploy".

To find a root cause, I need to look at the broken thing. If you hit restart, the only thing I can guarantee is that the fault will occur again.

This is newbie hipster webdeveloper BS.

Re: on Sunday October 03, 2021 @02:20AM (#28734940)
Don't use third party chargers on A1706 or A1708 MacBook Pros. Doing so will kill a charge IC. It's well documented and I fix one or two of these logic board faults every month.
Re: on Sunday October 03, 2021 @02:17AM (#28734934)
Charging from the wrong side will also fry a charge IC. That's what partially pays my bills, my business offers MacBook board repair.
Re:No More Medium – Build Your Own Site (2019) on Saturday September 11, 2021 @05:49PM (#28496388)
This, plus I downvote on Reddit and tell Google News to show me less medium.
Re:I Have Decided to Stop Supporting My Family's Non-Linux Devices on Thursday September 02, 2021 @12:28AM (#28388658)
OP is absolutely right. Mac users, go call your genius bar. Windows users, go away.
Re:My MacBook Pro had over 10k USD in repairs on Thursday August 26, 2021 @01:27AM (#28311031)
I repair thede devices for a living. They all have the same funny issues. But fanboys gonna fanboy. Won't complain, more work for me.
Use IPv6 from the beginning and banish NAT.
Re:The Awful German Language (1880) on Wednesday May 19, 2021 @11:05PM (#27216927)
That's exactly what a German speaker would do.
LOL, when will people finally stop buying this stuff...
What makes you think so?
Re:My MacBook Air M1 is dead on Friday May 07, 2021 @02:12AM (#27072804)
That money will buy you two Zenbooks, both of which are faster and easier to repair. Just saying.
Re:How to send $ETH in 19 lines of Python on Wednesday May 05, 2021 @02:14PM (#27053577)
