Speaking of host culture, this is an interesting blog I came across written by an American ex-pat working as a host in Osaka.

Re: Working hard is overrated on Sunday September 27, 2009 @04:13AM (#846668)
Regarding the Watson and Crick reference: it helps when you have other people like Rosalind Franklin working through the nights doing X-ray crystallography and taking the "pictures" that shed the real light on the structure of DNA. It leaves enough time to write the papers, do the PR, and get the credit. And, I guess, there's more than enough time left over for "chasing popsies."

Re:Experiment: No Comment Scores on Saturday September 26, 2009 @05:55AM (#845296)
How about having the scores show up after a week (or X amount of time). Practically nobody votes on week-old posts, but I often use -- for example -- searchyc.com's average points per post to get a feel for a user's contributions.

That would balance the elimination of mob voting with being able to ascertain (historical) credibility.

Re:Mercurial 1.3 released on Thursday July 02, 2009 @06:32AM (#684130)
The Mercurial subrepos are similar to and inspired by git's submodules (but, presumably, less user hostile). You can use this to group your app with the libraries it depends on, for instance.
Re:Hitler's secret fighter revealed on Tuesday June 30, 2009 @01:33PM (#681146)
If you read the actual source article in National Geographic, you'll find that the Horten brothers were in fact Nazis.

Still, even if they were not Nazi's, English is sufficiently malleable that Nazi engineer could mean simply an engineer employed by the Nazi's.

Is every "Google engineer" an actual Google?

It's hard to meet women when they don't exist.

Um, girls in SF say the same thing about a lack of guys.
