Loathe this company and everything they put out.
Re:DeepSeek: DeepSeek v4.1 Flash 1017 on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:31PM (#50132501)
What? The US govt has in practice unlimited access to whatever that's hosted in the US, or even outside by a US company. It's called the CLOUD act.
Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Thursday October 15, 2026 @06:04PM (#50111033)
I have done both extensively and heavy, and like you said yourself, with the barbell deadlift you will sometimes trash your back. Yes it does work the back muscles a little harder, but for me the extra risk isn't worth it. Also with the trap bar you can lift more weight so it balances out.
Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Thursday October 15, 2026 @10:50AM (#50104520)
> the best workout is the one you can do on the way to the bathroom

Absolutely not. This is what you tell sedentary people to get them to move a bit. For your purpose of looking good, you're wasting your time. You need to add weight every workout.

> I've been training with appearance (especially to women) in mind

That is the wrong mindset, but then again what I told you earlier will give you the appearance you seek. Seriously just go to a proper gym with a barbell.

Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Thursday October 15, 2026 @10:08AM (#50103911)
That is way too much, of the wrong type. You're doing a lot of isolation work, but really you should be focusing on compound lifts with the barbell. Check out Stronglifts 5x5 for example.

With a few millions in the bank I'd retire to Asia and live off interests. I guarantee you wouldn't be treated like shit.

> but it goes mostly to the gut

This is so weird to me if you're always working out as you said. What are you doing at the gym? Compound barbell movements with heavy weights will absolutely prevent this and get you jacked in the right places.

Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Thursday October 15, 2026 @01:22AM (#50099507)
Same here, really life changing for me with a back injury. I recommend hex bar deadlifts as they put much less pressure on the lower back than conventional ones. And front squats for the same reason.
Re:Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @06:51AM (#49534472)
At this point I simply don't care about Anthropic or OAI in the slightest, the exciting stuff is coming from China with great, cheap SOTA models and local AI that people can run themselves.
Re:Sovereign Tech Agency invests €500k in Flatpak on Friday August 28, 2026 @03:56AM (#49475684)
I use bubblewrap directly, never liked Flatpak.
Re:Progress Linux 7.2 – Asahi Linux on Thursday August 27, 2026 @02:33AM (#49460672)
> 90% of features for systems half a decade old

This can be a good tradeoff. An M1 Ultra still runs circles around 90% of consumer hardware sold today, and with Linux it has easily another 10+ years. Now support for M3 is coming.

> Asahi is doing incredible work but it's still 5 people in a garage vs the huge corporation.

Not sure why the "vs" scenario, this is a project that makes no promises. And I think they do have some support from Fedora / Red Hat fwiw.

Yeah for a lot of us macOS really gets in the way of using the otherwise excellent hardware. My daily driver is an M1 Pro with Asahi and it's easily my favorite computer ever. It's a real shame that the newer M models can't run Linux.
Re:Ornith-1.5: From Self-Scaffolding to Self-Improvement on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @11:12PM (#49369955)
I get ~10 tok/sec on a M1 Ultra, but the real issue is abysmal prompt processing which makes it unusable. On the M1 and M2 series MTP is actively harmful for performance.
Re:Ornith-1.5: From Self-Scaffolding to Self-Improvement on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @11:07PM (#49369931)
What signals? Looking more like a tiered release.
Re:Incident with Github.com on Monday August 17, 2026 @02:35PM (#49335630)
Any good LLM should be able to come up with the equivalent git and curl commands fairly easily.
I'm doing much the same, avoid the long thinking loops and instead have more iterations on the plan with reviews from different angles.
When I set up my local AI server I tried different harnesses and one prompt was to build a site for a consultancy in my domain. Not long after an actual agency I know had a website redesign and it was the exact same thing I got from my local model and the Hermes agent with the web design skill.
6 or 7 years here, no news or socials. I keep telling people the same thing, you find out about the important stuff real quick regardless. The rest is noise and rage bait.
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @07:12AM (#49082167)
He is well aware. This is just another pathetic attempt at being handed a monopoly based on fear-mongering and protectionism.
Indeed, and I kinda miss it. My first couple IT jobs were right in Central London and we would all religiously meet at the pub after work, along with hundreds from other companies of all kinds. The banter was glorious.
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @05:21AM (#49081376)
Don't be so naive. He only wants a monopoly and a massive IPO.
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @04:54AM (#49081179)
Most hated company in record time, this Dario is insufferable.
> there is plenty of reporting suggesting their response will be similar

There is? Xi Jinping himself openly talked very recently about China's commitment to open weights models.

They are lobbying hard for a monopoly, or duopoly at best, in AI, based on protectionism rather than merit.
> the U.S. can “sanction” companies that engage in intellectual property theft

The hypocrisy is off the charts.

Re:LG to ban residential proxies from smart TV apps on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @08:23AM (#49005628)
I have that setup for my home network regardless. And my TV is the original C1 OLED, nothing compared when I got it. I wouldn't buy LG today.
Re:LG to ban residential proxies from smart TV apps on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @05:21AM (#49003880)
They hardcode DNS servers into the TV. You need a firewall in front of the pihole intercepting that traffic, I use OpenWrt.
OAI and HF basically saying that Chinese models are the only practical countermeasure available to us plebs. Got it.
I won't be giving a dime to the companies that stole all the IP in the world and are now gatekeeping it, acting as the rightful owners, and trashing the hardware market for everyone else in the process. So it's Chinese models or nothing for me.
Re:Nativ: Run frontier open models locally on your Mac on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @05:29AM (#48989989)
Same here. Tried MLX twice at different times after reading the claims here but it always does considerably worse for me than llamacpp.
