Re:Databases Should be Dynamically Typed on Saturday October 17, 2009 @08:25PM (#887676)
Data consistency could be maintained through stronger runtime input verification which in turn nulls everything you said.

I don't think that it would be a bad idea to have dynamically typed databases although it would put a little more strain on developing the actual application instead of having to spend time on making the database.

Re:CD Baby’s Shipment Confirmation Email on Saturday October 17, 2009 @06:29PM (#887526)
At the bottom of cdbaby's contact page there are instructions on how to contact them via a homing pigeon. Cute.
Not feasible in capitalism.
MS is not a problem. I rarely use it now but Google I could not avoid. Gmail, Reader, Calendar, Docs etc etc etc
Re:Did Google just buy dropbox.com? on Friday October 02, 2009 @11:15AM (#857195)
Does this mean that Google might buy Dropbox that is at getdropbox.com now?
Re:Ask HN: Do you think machine consciousness is possible? on Thursday September 10, 2009 @06:51AM (#815011)
Seeing how consciousness is defined as being aware of one-self, machines will never be conscious. Since, we program machines and give them everything they know, every last algorithm, I don't think that we will ever be able to code a consciousness algorithm.

Re:Design notebook suggestions? on Sunday August 09, 2009 @04:02PM (#751211)
The best one that I have used so far is a spiral bound deck of A4 sheets of paper with a hard cover. A bit heavier paper works best.

Benefits: - Cheap - Fully customizable - If you cannot find them then make them

Re:Ask HN: Had an original idea for a start-up...but on Thursday July 30, 2009 @07:28AM (#731963)
Your university library might have a lot of books on these. Get a couple for PHP and JS and read them through simultaneously. That way, even if one book misses something you get it from the other one and the best part is, it does not cost anything.

I think its safe to say that The Pirate Bay has died.

Re:Ask HN: Afraid I've dug myself into a hole on Sunday January 25, 2009 @03:07AM (#448904)
Also, having some kind of certification like Sun's Certified Java Programmer/Developer thing can be useful

IMO, you should write something cool and then apply for some jobs and if nothing works out then just wait a while, write something else, then apply again

Ow, and you are definitely not in a hole, SAP is an awesome company. If you're bored with what you do now ask for a transfer to a different department.

Re:Ask HN: Is Hacker News a Waste of Time? on Saturday January 24, 2009 @06:32AM (#448018)
Yes, but its awesome so your point is moot.
Re:Ask HN: Review my site - thefabulicious.com on Saturday January 24, 2009 @06:21AM (#448014)
Hey, I like the concept. Here are a few suggestions:

The landing should have some kind of description about what the page is about.

Reduce the space between the header and the main content.

Do not underline the Buy it and Originator links and align them to the right.

Reduce the space for the suggested links. What I mean is make the column of the product shown wider and the suggestions narrower.

Those are all minor things. You really should put a brief description about what you do. Other then that I like it.

Re:Ask HN: When do you code? on Friday January 23, 2009 @05:00AM (#446219)
