Re:New Apple TV 4K on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:27PM (#50095567)
I love Apple TV, but 400USD is to much. The 2012 ATV3 cost 100USD here, a more suitable price for a streaming box that offers subscriptions would be more in the 200-250 range.
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @04:01PM (#49759452)
I like passkeys. I dislike how websites vary the implementation of passkeys.

One thing Ethan misses: you don’t necessarily need one passkey per site. A single passkey protecting Google, Apple, Microsoft, GitHub, etc. can indirectly authenticate you to hundreds of sites via OAuth/OIDC (Sign in with…), while consuming only one resident credential on the hardware key per identity provider.

That makes the “hardware keys can’t store enough passkeys” argument much weaker in practice.

What if Canada changed the name to Lake Giuffre?
Re:London Underground begins scanning passengers' faces on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @07:42PM (#49265997)
At first this made me upset - why should I be monitored? Then it hit me, years ago we had policemen/bobbies that would essentially do the same thing. Look at people - notice them.

It’s a shame they didn't launch this as bobbie v2 that would offer people useful services (like the one wearing a funny hat did): a way to alert police, information, directions. Heck it could even offer guidance for those in need to talk to someone. Truly a missed opportunity.

Re:CarPlay Is Additive on Friday July 03, 2026 @01:05PM (#48777281)
I drive a 2025 Kia Ceed and the all the infotainment does is get in my way. Id pay to have it removed. Carplay & Siri helps me stay focused on driving in a safe way.
Wouldn’t a purpose built Esp32 with microphones aimed at the sky do a better job? It would be always on, better directional targeting.
Re:The complete IPv4 address space, mapped on Sunday June 07, 2026 @05:51PM (#48438934)
Love the localhost easteregg!
Mouseless website totally forgets to sell the product. Had to dig into the docs to understand how its used, what is offers.

Re:Show HN: I made an emergency page for my family on Wednesday May 27, 2026 @02:43PM (#48298621)
Youre not alone with the problem: if device lost -> difficult to reach family

No matter what solution you choose you will need to remember something. I have two family members who always answer, so their phone numbers are the only two I know. By dialing them manually now and then I make sure my memory is working.

In the age of AI/voice generators I’ve also told them how I will identify myself. So if being mugged in Kiwiland, and they get a call where I ask them to transfer money they can do so knowing it would only be me making that request as I told them the secret phrase: ”yes, it was me who tipped over the Christmas tree”. Ofcourse not that, but something none of the inner family will ever forget.

OT: this is the first time Ive encountered a branching article. Awesome. The ability has been there for decades, but never used. Guess going from print to digital is not only a change of tools but a mindset.
Capslock <-> Backspace is my #1 keyboard config. Esc is not bad either. BUT WHY DO I NEED A LARGE KEY FOR SHOUTING?
Re:Stop Flock on Wednesday April 15, 2026 @12:20AM (#47774635)
So with 100k cameras crime is down how much?
Re:LinkedIn uses 2.4 GB RAM across two tabs on Sunday March 29, 2026 @06:00PM (#47567848)

Robert: youre website is among the most visually attractive ones Ive seen.
US government is a farce. How can they have a system that completely halts every now and then just because the ones in charge can’t agree? If this is such a big issue, and it’s repeating: plan ahead.
Re:Do Not Turn Child Protection into Internet Access Control on Saturday March 21, 2026 @11:46PM (#47474265)
Anyone else open for internet v2? Like a completely new system, with everything that we enjoyed with the first one around the millenia: buggy webpages, slow downloads, crappy browsers, having to download plugins…

Lets do it again!

Re:Banned in California on Thursday February 26, 2026 @10:34AM (#47167477)
Page seems to be blocked from EU.
The issue is that the letter that pops may be replaced, if it later changes its mind. Eg if you hit U, get a U popup, and sofly release while moving into the target area for J. You get a J.
For me it’s dealbreaker that it’s available via homebrew.

Not a stance or anything, but when I get a new Mac I use homebrew bundle If it’s not in my brewfile from old Mac, theres a high probability I won’t get it installed.

I cant use mice without https://linearmouse.app to adjust acceleration. (0$)
They did that in 2007. Some countries banned it as early as 1983. Remind me, what year is it now?
Re:The last-ever penny will be minted today in Philadelphia on Wednesday November 12, 2025 @03:35PM (#45906219)
My country quit using our (then) lowest denomination coin 32 years ago. Also worth 1/100 of a USD.
Re:Time to Start De-Appling on Monday November 10, 2025 @11:29AM (#45877599)
Apple obeys the law. Policians set the law. You vote for politicians.

So nu, it makes no sense to blame Apple here.

Was thinking of a way to recreate MTV for my daugther, for the same reason - to explore and discover outside the algo bubble on social media.
Re:Apple Photos App Corrupts Images on Wednesday September 17, 2025 @12:27PM (#45277958)
Im interested to see if you encounter the same with a different phone. Most probably a software issue, but are we sure it isnt something defective with your phone?
Re:X(Twitter) Shadow Bans Turkish Presidential Candidate on Tuesday September 02, 2025 @02:50PM (#45107391)

Re:The Size of Adobe Reader Installers Through the Years on Monday August 25, 2025 @11:53AM (#45015203)
I keep jumping between Preview and Skim. Preview for simple tasks and editing, Skim for advanced reading (think huge pdfs, where I want to see two parts of the file at the same time).
I need to make one of my own, when Im done fixing up an old bike for my fish.
