Mech engineers always overbuild things with safety factors in the 2x and 10x levels.
Why not just remove the neural/earth wires from all buildings and sockets? That'll do a whole lot of good by saving a bunch of copper, that's a tight resource I hear.
Also, screw air/sea regulation as well. We'll all just stand in the cabins, that'll increase Ryan air's failing profitability. Charge me for bringing my shoes on board too, I'm too rich anyway, skim any change off of my pocket please.
This slope is very very slippery.
What's the point of all this? Aren't they all supposed to be just elected officials, and with the help of admin, supposed to just do their jobs?
I know I sound naive, I know it's more than this. I know interpersonal relationships matter and that's what these "contacts" are. But if all this can be thrown away by the actions of the few, what's the point of all this effort? Just simplify the entire structure, slash all this admin to the bare bones and let the people at the top show their competency, instead of the admin covering for them.
Over the last decade (last 3+ decades realistically, I'm around 35, so that's all my personal anecdotal data goes back to), these "leaders" have all thrown away the facade of "mentorship", "leadership" and all those heavy words.
It's replaced with one phrase, "Profit at any cost". So that means, if you got yours, you're good. If you didn't, see ya! All this is obviously reflected geopolitically (macro-level), so why are we so surprised when it's affecting us at the micro-level?
This is a quote from a really good TV series (called Smiley's people), delivered by George Smiley (Alec Guinness):
`In my time, Peter Guillam, I've seen Whitehall skirts go up and come down again. I've listened to all the excellent argument for doing nothing, and reaped the consequent frightful harvest. I've watched people hop up and down and call it progress. I've seen good men go to the wall and the idiots get promoted with a dazzling regularity. All I'm left with is me and thirty-odd years of cold war without the option.`
So, it's not been out of the norm in our times to watch our own backs. No one is watching ours, the workers, the talent. Moscow rules gentlemen.
They don't (or rather CAN) care about anything else in the world.
They have a lot more problems than "this model doesn't convert urdu to arabic well".
I agree though, the numbers seem comically high.
Perhaps he's made another deal with the board for a better $100B pay package so he can lie to the shareholders (who'll eat it up) and he'll dump subpar products onto these people who are heralding him as another "genius" or whatever.
He's just another run-of-the-mill, out of touch conman at this point. He was great, but he didn't hold onto his own greatness.
edit: Something about a park ride?! ... Jesus.

Is this "Hybrid Hype" a realization, or is it a knee-jerk reaction to China now gaining more ground on the EV vehicles + Elon's latest antics?
Charming quip aside, he knew what he was doing. He knew what he was doing 4 years ago, and he does even more now.
None of this screams "I'm going to change this world", this organization is mired in politics from the start, no wonder Satya is hedging his bets.

I've loaded the "Polygon.io" plugin, and it spat out the entire JS behind the plugin.
Here's the pastebin for this, as the text was too long. https://pastebin.com/4bWGNmXs
---------------------------
GoStreams (or Lightning)
---------------------------
It's an almost real-time data streaming service for the polygon.io data provider.
It's a project that I started a couple of years ago during the pandemic. I've developed several data-sinks for this service (KDB, QuestDB, Postgres), but it's become more of a Theseus' Ship, development is never ending!
The aim is to build a backtester that will attach to this data service.
https://github.com/tranquilo12/goStreams
The README is outdated, but the gist of the project is that it's trying to be a service that can download all the historical data (for the requested tickers), and will stream the live data to a data-sink, without any issues, and with a good terminal ui.
I'm also thinking of integrating the Charm's libraries with this too, love a good TUI. (https://charm.sh/)
I'm interested in building this out as a project, it will not be made into a company etc. The repo will be fully public.
You can find my email in my profile.

Anyone up for this? You can find my email in my profile.

The higher bandwidth is to clearly entice new customers, but the question remains, what happens to the old ChatGPT Plus users? Do their quotas get eaten up by these new teams?
I realize that it's more a combination of tradition and their self imposed ~exile~ (isolationism, corrected) from the world for a long time.
But there must be a reason why they excel, I mean really excel at anything they put their minds to.
Their population also tolerates this! These businesses stay in business!
Just to name a few things they're still unbeatable at:
1. Pens (This is a rabbit hole, buyer beware)
2. Paper (Midori! oh Midori)
3. Architecture (a function of their location, but none-the-less)
4. Art (manga, cartoons, all invaluable part of the pop culture even today)
5. I don't partake as much, but their food is unbelievable.
There's just something about their tenacity that we can take a morsel of.
edit: Corrected from exile, to isolationism. Also, I did forget about photography! (Nikon!) and chalk! All credits to people(ai?) in the comments below for these edits.
Straight out of a Fast & Furious movie. You can(!) make this shit up.
But as a person in tech, where all my values are directed towards "making a better world"... this also goes against every ideal we have. Unless you count living in a world where we have the ability to exterminate a large amount of people without proportional retaliation as a "better world", in a non-nuclear way.
We don't use biological weapons, so why use seeing robots with rockets on them? Oh yeah I forgot, we can't "catch a disease" from these robots, and they have a "limited" damage capability, unlike bio-warfare that can go out of hand and can poison lands.
Coincidentally, the second point also means that we'll have to make a lot of them, and gosh darn it we'll have to build more factories and supply jobs to people. Wait a min...
I'm really happy that less marines will be put in harms way when they try to launch missiles from their shoulders (also crazy if you think about it too much), but they did sign up for it, and they're not facing an army that can comprehend what's coming towards them.
I've got competing opinions in my head, but one thing is for sure, autonomous warfare can either be a chess game that countries play (as a proxy for all the human lives), or the final game we'll play.
You may not agree with his views (it's so far to the left, that it makes your head spin) but rather read it for how he writes. His terse words are a window into his psyche.
Everything is presented in a very "matter-of-fact" way. I've read most of his books and it's surprising how very little he thinks of his own opinions. For him, it's not a revelation that the world is corrupt and full of structures that incentivise the destruction of the middle class etc., it's just a matter of fact. "That's how the world is and this is where I think it's going, good luck with changing that", that's what it feels like.
I was pretty young when I started reading them, around 16. It temporarily changed me for the worse, the books are so pessimistic, that it tends to put that person I described above (getting sucked into books) into a depressive state.
If you want to start somewhere, try "Manufacturing Consent" (by Chomsky and Herman).
If you've already read that, then try "On Palestine" by Chomsky as well, I don't recall reading it but it does seem timely now.
Was this such a big problem?
In my experience, the GIL, faster start-up times are so much higher on the totem pole, why this now?
Kind of a chicken-and-egg problem (to be widely used, it helps to be simple, but not all simple-to-use products make it to being widely used). TensorFlow vs PyTorch anyone?
Now, which will be more likely to be widely adopted? No one knows, just keep using both, learning both linguistics and hopefully one of them gets enough traction and all your effort put into building something with these two doesn't go to waste, fingers crossed.
