Google is to Android as Meta is to Llama. But this time it’s all about AR glasses.
Sat in the rear, it feels claustrophobic. I’m told they will solve that with extra daylight lighting installed behind the rear headrests.
Re:Taos Operating System (1995) on Monday August 21, 2023 @02:12PM (#37213260)
I “founded” and ran the acorn computer user www server at this time. The remains of the site still have a Taos press release on it.

Is the abomination that is “I’ll revert on that” a wart?

Distillation. Corpora. Zero-shot. One-shot/few-shot. Labelled and unlabelled. Self-supervised.

Re:Terraform should have remained stateless on Saturday May 28, 2022 @02:35AM (#31538094)
“level triggered” vs “edge triggered” is the kubernetes term for stateless vs stateful. It’s one of the reasons why any cluster configuration drift becomes eventually consistent with desired state.
Re:The UK’s delta surge is collapsing on Monday August 02, 2021 @06:08PM (#28043312)
ONS sampling disputes this.
Re:The Crown Estate on Saturday June 12, 2021 @05:58AM (#27483198)
As one of the 60%, its not about deity worship, but more about a sense of stability. Especially where the monarchy has effectively zero involvement in daily life. When looked at from a P&L basis the crown is pretty good value. Certainly compared to all the alternatives that have been tried.
Re:A forgotten medieval fruit with a vulgar name on Sunday March 28, 2021 @05:44PM (#26614946)
I had a large tree in the garden of my previous house. I used to make significant quantities of medlar jelly every year and give the jars away to family and friends. The house was 400 years old, but the tree was significantly younger.

Just be glad no-one thought of running Internet Explorer as the desktop background....oh wait....
Re:Why do they still make car alarms? (2015) on Wednesday January 20, 2021 @02:52AM (#25843713)
> Davis Adams, who works at Honda and drives an S2000, told me about a Lotus Elise he used to own that had a motion sensor. "If you locked the door, and moved your hand in the open air," he said, "the alarm would go off. So if you left a dog in the car, or someone leaned in the open convertible to look, it'd trigger the alarm."

20 year Lotus Elise owner here. I have had thieves slash the roof and and steal items. And I would never leave a dog alone in it.

These corporate phishing test emails come from phishd and similar services. Very easy to fingerprint them with smtp headers and set up mail rules to bounce them to your corporate phishing sink...
Re:Virtual Machine Detection in the Browser (2019) on Saturday December 19, 2020 @08:40AM (#25477319)
For those that have access to Menlo Security’s safe browsing saas service, it’s worthwhile analysing what client side JavaScript can tell you about the runtime environment. Device aspect ratio is just one of the strange things reported.
Re:The Chrome Root Program on Thursday December 03, 2020 @02:08AM (#25286359)
What about Edge and other Chromium browsers? For Edgium on Linux, will this likely result in a change of store?
Re:What ORMs Have Taught Me: Just Learn SQL (2014) on Wednesday October 21, 2020 @02:59AM (#24845394)
Perfect example of the trough of disillusionment. The ORM slope of enlightenment comes when you realise the power of the unit of work, not just a single query. But that was then, and microservices mean we no longer use large units of work. So ORMs without complex UoW make less sense.
Waypoint feels similar to Skaffold mixed with some Eirini or Google’s dead kf project.
Got to wonder whether it’s something like ncipher/Thales due to the van someren/aleph1 connection.
Re:SoftBank set to sell UK’s Arm Holdings to Nvidia for $40B on Sunday September 13, 2020 @03:29AM (#24459100)
Mali was an ARM acquisition. It makes sense for NVidia to smash Mali and RTX together to allow Android manufacturers to compete against Apple.

Apple built their GPU studio from ex-Imagination staff and will introduce 3 GPUs over the next year: Sicilian, Tonga, Lifuka to support their mobile and desktop plans.

The question is whether ARM will sub license this combined GPU tech, or if it will be NVidia silicon only.

As suggested by the previous comments here, there are different types of architect in technology.

The software architect elevator is a new O’Reilly book that explores this.

I have no connection with the author or publisher.

Re:Renowned Entomologist Says ‘Get Rid of Your Lawn’ on Monday January 06, 2020 @02:07AM (#21967179)
A friend once explained that boys are like dogs. They need exercising twice a day. A back yard and a ball are sufficient for that. A paved area is more likely than lawn to provide yet more trips to ER.

Except if you go around the rear to TNMOC.
Re:Oxide Computer Company: Initial boot sequence on Monday December 02, 2019 @05:33PM (#21687816)
Sounds like they are building a new OS written in rust sitting at the level of bios, beneath a standard Linux kernel. This will be an open source bios running at or below the hypervisor supervisor ring level.
Could do with a dog frightener sample. Some people in our wework are allergic to dogs, so this would help them.
“There are no GPUs in this system because there are no European makers of GPUs”

Cough cough. Mali. Imagination. Even Apple.
