The Renegade BBS inspired dashboard definitely tickled my nostalgia as well.

Like Michael Avenatti?
Re:My essential Firefox fixes in 2022 on Sunday March 13, 2022 @02:06PM (#30664021)
Do you know when userchrome is going to be axed? I haven't seen anything about it.
I wasn’t a part of the interview process, but I was told some of the details. The interview was remote and they did well on the video interview and on the take home challenge. My best guess is they were being given help.
My company hired a senior developer for an Angular project we were working on. They did great in the interviews and on our take home coding challenge. When it got down to time to work, I was walking them through the codebase and it very quickly became apparent they not only didn't know Angular, they didn't even know much at all about web development in general. They were let go three days later. I'd heard of things like this happening but I couldn't believe it until I saw it in real life. I just can't imagine what someone like that is thinking. I get "fake it 'til you make it" but this was on a whole other level.

I had not thought about these ads in forever, but when I saw the ad in the article I had a somewhat Pavlovian response.

I've lost two multitools that happen to have small knives on them this way. Very frustrating and embarrassing.

It would be nice if the table of contents marked where to start if you're already familiar with programming concepts.
Re:First Impressions with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W on Thursday October 28, 2021 @11:19AM (#29027127)
Thanks for your RPi content Alex. Even though I'm not really active in the space, I still enjoy reading/watching about what's going on.
Re:Nine Raspberry Pis powering an office (2016) on Monday October 25, 2021 @07:44PM (#28994673)
Tailscale is great. It's really changed my world and it's so dang simple.
It is sad. Especially considering I think it's a damn good browser, especially on the Mac where it doesn't seem to burn as much battery as Chrome.
I love these two videos.

Cop: Yeah, what he said.

Same reason I switched to Vimium-C.

Watch out Wednesday.
Re:Tech Interviews Are Stupid on Tuesday June 01, 2021 @12:52PM (#27357554)
One of the companies I interviewed with did what he described and it was nice. I thought the cool thing was that in the second interview they wanted me to walk them through some of my thought process for why I did/searched for certain things.

I didn't end up taking the job, but boy was it a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other interviews I've done.

Re:How Intuitive Are Macs Really? on Monday May 24, 2021 @09:43AM (#27264264)
I'm convinced 90% of my love of the Mac was the customizing I had done to it.

I've never seen it happen in person either. As someone who used to be terrified of going to the gym because I didn't want to look like the new person at the gym, I can say for myself that it was all in my head.

Con man turns out to be con man.

Granted the con isn't as glamorous at it was made out to be, but still a pretty effective con.

Looks like it's behind their paywall.
Re:John Swartzwelder, Sage of “The Simpsons” on Tuesday May 04, 2021 @07:29AM (#27036411)
I enjoyed this article. Especially his discussion of writing filler text in scripts that would be ironed out later during rewrites. I see a nice correlation to writing software. Get it working in general and then go back and optimize it.
Re:Firefox 89.0 Beta brings a new look on Wednesday April 21, 2021 @07:41PM (#26896790)
In general I like the redesign, however, my one major quibble with it as a user of Container Tabs is it is now a little more difficult to see the Container Tab color.

Agreed, I’ve seen James live a few times and he is a great songwriter.

Better than my idea which was to bomb it and then clean up the pieces.
Re:RIP Google Reader on Thursday March 25, 2021 @01:35PM (#26583083)
I still miss Google Reader almost every day. I now use Inoreader but for some reason it just doesn't feel the same.
I can't believe this just appeared on the front page. A co-worker and I were just talking about this happening on calls. I'm going to send this to a few people unsolicited.
Re:The 'brushing' scam that's behind mystery parcels on Tuesday September 08, 2020 @02:01PM (#24410950)
My wife keeps getting packages in the mail containing cheap jewelry, the type you’d find in a vending machine for $.25 USD. It’s all very strange.

We've been using Instacart more during the pandemic and we've found that it makes shopping for substitutions much harder. Instacart has about as good of a system for replacements as possible IMO but I still prefer to be able to adapt and change what we're planning to eat on the fly, in the store. On the other hand we have started to widen our recipe horizons by being forced to use unexpected replacements.
Re:Apple of 2019 is the Linux of 2000 on Monday October 14, 2019 @07:00AM (#21246890)
Too many of the issues the author cites about Linux are still problems today. They're not nearly as bad as they were in 2000, but they still exist.
Re:Goodreads Is Broken on Saturday September 07, 2019 @02:37PM (#20905658)
I only use it manually, and you're right, it doesn't take much to add a book. I did use the integration on the Kindle when I used a Kindle, but I switched to checking out paper books at the library last year, and I haven't missed a beat.
