How about "Proofmaxxing"
Also France scores hugely better on the international cheese index
I use Little Snitch and block every phone home feature. Works great.
I'd argue that this is just another reason not to use microservices.

wohooo!

Most Beef in New Zealand is fully grass fed and it tastes...real. Some people would say "Gamey" others say "Actually has some flavour"
Re:Launching Solveit – an antidote to AI fatigue on Thursday October 02, 2025 @06:13PM (#45456239)
So the antidote to AI fatigue is... more AI?

Re:Detroit's Carmakers to Save Billions in Emissions Rollback on Sunday September 07, 2025 @07:35PM (#45163213)
Yeah, but no-one outside of the USA will buy their shitty cars. So ultimately, they won't be competitive and will go under.
Wait... so they have made a plant run by the power of mixing fresh and salt water so it can separate the salt out again?
Doesn't matter. At this point renewables are going to win, it's just an economic fact. This will only serve to delay this by a small amount.
The OP mentioned technical blogs, which are commercial a lot of the time. I should know, I've written a lot of them.
Haha wondered who was going to be the first
When I see an AI generated image, I just think of the digital artist / photographer who missed out on a cut because of this image. That in itself is a pretty big turn off.
This is getting close to ignoble territory. Analysis of cauldrons shows they ate... stew?? Hardly a huge surprise there.
Re:Young people are flocking to astrology on Monday July 24, 2023 @02:40AM (#36843848)
The more the nuanced the take, the less people will be drawn to it. Hence the popularity of the Bible and the Koran etc.
Re:Young people are flocking to astrology on Monday July 24, 2023 @02:38AM (#36843832)
It doesn't matter how sophisticated your argument is if it's resting on something as flimsy as "I believe in god because god says he's real".
$615k... feck. More like a gentle caress.
I was just checking the comments to confirm that someone had got there before me... yup.
Re:GPT makes learning fun again on Tuesday May 02, 2023 @04:08PM (#35793407)
By "failed" I meant "Proved hard to parse". I don't think they failed at all.
Re:GPT makes learning fun again on Tuesday May 02, 2023 @02:55AM (#35784252)
Don't forget that GPT was trained on data from all the sources that failed you. So if we all collectively neglect them, and they fall over, we will lose many valuable resources.

I think we need to think about how to keep these valuable sites going, because they are ultimately providing most of the value of the various available language models.

Re:Auto-GPT: An Autonomous GPT-4 Experiment on Sunday April 02, 2023 @05:07PM (#35415215)
I've found this too. It confidently generates something for you... which turns out to be no good if it's in any way different from standard stuff. And making that leap from just a mash up of copy-pasta code to actual understanding... is huge. It wouldn't be an incremental upgrade, but a fundamental change in approach.
Re:GitHub India's entire Engineering team is fired on Tuesday March 28, 2023 @09:36PM (#35350921)
I think the first casualties of ChatGPT for developers are going to be offshore teams. These teams get given small, discrete programming tasks. They are also often teams with very high turnover. This means that tasks need to be heavily specified and managed. I think it's a small step from this to just getting a LLM to do the work. I also think that this could potentially be a huge disruptor for India as a whole and that there could well be some very big lawsuits coming brought by Indian companies who have lost millions (Billions?) to a machine trained on a largely open source codebase. This sort of thing makes me reconsider whether I should be putting any code up on github or answering anything on stackoverflow - why would I do this, if my code is harvested and used against me?
Re:Why are online recipes always so long-winded? on Wednesday February 01, 2023 @01:46PM (#34615483)
I generally try to find Jamie Oliver versions of recipes - they are short, tested and they taste good.
Re:Ask HN: Is it just me or is 5G strictly worse than LTE? on Sunday January 29, 2023 @12:27AM (#34565217)
Looks like we've reached the feature saturation intersection, where the added benefit curve meets the curve of ridiculousness. This happened with razors too, who also coincidentally stopped at 5.
Re:American tourist smashes two sculptures in the Vatican on Thursday October 06, 2022 @01:23PM (#33111163)
There is something very "Florida Man" about this story.
Re:The OK? Programming Language on Tuesday August 30, 2022 @12:35AM (#32646670)
Got as far as this before my WTF moment: a != b let x = !(a >= b); let y = !(b >= a); x || y Also had pause to think at this: result = divide(5, 0) switch result[1] { case "": puts(result[0]) default: puts(result[1]) // prints "cannot divide by zero" } I mean... the language was looking pretty good up until that point.
Re:There aren't that many uses for blockchains on Thursday August 11, 2022 @03:03AM (#32422427)
I'm waiting for a nice github repo called "You might not need Blockchain". I kind of am actually. I heard someone trying to convince a credulous interviewer why blockchain would be the perfect solution for a bike register to prevent theft. The whole time I was thinking this could be solved by a plain old database hosted by a trusted third party.
Re:Why do we still permit tobacco use? (2015) on Sunday December 19, 2021 @02:00PM (#29617100)
New Zealand has just banned it using a rolling age locked technique - starting from next year. This means that anyone 14 and under in NZ will never be legally able to by tobacco.
