Depends on your definition of "work".

For me it does not work because I'd want to use it with values < 0, but the for loop checks for > 0, so I would have to modify that first.

Damn, my check must've gotten lost in the mail.

Cute but wouldn't work with ssize_t :)

VHDL's array/vector syntax actually works a similar way:

-- gives 0, 1, 2, 3:

for i in 0 to 3 loop

-- gives 3, 2, 1, 0:

for i in 3 downto 0 loop

Yes... I presume they meant XIP for multiple programs at once, since you'd need an MMU for that.

There are other types of non-personal reasons people still use email. I certainly don't SMS or WhatsApp with my work colleagues or any of our vendors.
> I don’t personally know anyone who has ever ran from the cops to evade a traffic violation.

I do... you would be shocked how many people actually do this. You just don't hang out with the wrong enough friends.

Objectively reasonable? How is that measured again?
My experience with Lemmy is that it is much worse than reddit in terms of the number of people with cosmically inflated god-complex egos posting baseless accusations and wild misinformation as dogma with impunity. Then the mods punish anyone who calls them out on it... they seem to operate on extremely arbitrary and misguided rules: https://a.imagem.app/G3R9xb.png

Many servers defederate from each other regularly, making it very much a "which wind would you like to piss into" situation where you have no idea who (if anyone) is even seeing your messages.

My biggest complaint with the older models was the weight and the heat... even the A01's with barely any processing often get uncomfortably warm for me after some time, and it's already significantly cooler than the One Pro IMO.
Re:Compile-Time Target CPU Feature Detection in C on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:16AM (#50290428)
Personally I prefer run-time detection since that means the same binary can run on multiple different generations of processor, and it's much less confusing for the user who may not even know what a CPU is or which one they have.
The only strictness I have noticed is that captchas are way more annoying now, and they blanket ban entire residential IP networks (in addition to every possible datacenter/VPS/VPN/tor IP block on Earth). But somehow tons of people (not me) keep getting through.

But, they now allow NSFW content in regular boards like technology, and for the first time in 20 years I actually saw someone post cheese pizza... plus I regularly see more and more leaked data posted there first, so I wouldn't call it less lawless at all.

Ironically this is quite common on 4chan, although so are many other much more childish things, but there is an occasional flash of someone with real knowledge using it to be a clever asshole.

I'm convinced the only reason crimeflare continues to platform them is that it must be some kind of three letter honeypot.

I'm sure it helps, but there's definitely still way too many people [on social media] that have zero problems with publicly telling people to jump off a bridge while signing their full name with the message. Which is technically illegal in California now.

Dozens of the names, at least, correspond to J6 individuals.

I have tried the follow mode on my x01 but unfortunately it seems to add a slight (but annoying nonetheless) blur to the image... thankfully the normal mode does not bother me as much.
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:51PM (#50283587)
Most online platforms I have used to ask questions or make comments (whether it's real-time chat, mailing lists, forums, etc.) were extremely hostile and always have been... I guess it's just human nature.

StackOverflow, Reddit, Lemmy, Matrix, IRC (esp. Freenode/Libera), Mastodon, Bluesky, Lobsters, Phoronix, GNOME Forums, Discord, Twitter, LKML, ... over time I quit all of them because of just how unbelievably abusive, dogmatic and out of touch people were.

Even on HN I have had to block dozens of different accounts due to breathtaking entitlement, self-righteousness and arrogance.

Agreed... I feel like this is many people in general though (and esp. online forums/social media where people like to act smart); always with the armchair experts confidently stating uneducated guesses as dogma.

And the Dunning-Kruger effect also applies to "smart" people. You don't stop when you're estimating your ability correctly; as you learn more, you gain more awareness of your ignorance and continue being conservative with your self-estimates.

In my case I would need the puck if I'm out and about because my phone does not support DP Alt Mode.
Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @08:42PM (#50282955)
If you just want a "dumb" pair of wired display glasses, they have a $300 version (xbx a01+) that has no brick, no Android and no AI, it operates as a plain DP Alt Mode USB-C connection. They're like a modern version of the old Sony HMZ-T3, but with the size/weight/style of normal sunglasses.

I like mine, they are more usable as a work monitor than I thought they would be (I'm used to blurry VR sets but these are sharp except for the extreme edges). The FOV is not quite as wide as the new XR ones but I'm ok with that... I don't use them for any immersive effect.

Re:AlpineBSD on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:54AM (#50275760)
"runs on practically everything" I take to mean the main CPU and general machine architecture, not every possible peripheral driver one might need.
> There's no requirement for your beliefs to be consistent

I would bet money a judge would argue that inconsistent/arbitrary beliefs are in fact not "sincerely held" beliefs as defined under Title VII.

Also, SCOTUS made a ruling in 2023 that a business is allowed to take "undue hardship" into consideration for the company as a whole, meaning they can still fire (or not hire) you if your beliefs would be detrimental to the success of the business.

Yes, because those things don't affect his work as a university researcher, which is where he is protesting the forced use of AI and asking for an exemption to that rule.

Either way, I don't think people should be playing zero-sum altruism olympic games. Different people are always concerned about different things, and the "line in the sand" will always be different depending on who you ask.

I could ask how you (or anyone) dare to use technology at all when it supports forced child labor from mining the raw materials to make computer chips and batteries, but what good would that do?

> “The process and work involved in thinking through situations, through my work, through my ethics, through the way I handle other people, is a key component in being able to develop myself as a moral person,” he told RNS in a video interview. “And offloading that labor, regardless of whether it’s taxing or not, is undercutting my ability to be a moral actor.”

Very true, 100% agree. I'm not saying we should get rid of AI, but we need to be aware of the dangers of relying on it too much.

Nostalgia is different things for different people... some even prefer the loading times.

I don't really see the point in being so snarky about it.
