"Not because they copied each other. Because the constraints are physics."

Why do models tend to fall back on the ‘it is not X, it is Y’ structure so frequently?

And literally ∞ up since its release.
Re:El Salvador’s Historic Digital Asset Securities Law Passes on Thursday January 12, 2023 @06:47AM (#34352150)
I think it relates to exchange rates. On 2001 1 US Dollar = 1 Argentinian Peso. On 2023 1 US Dollar = 185 Argentinian Pesos.

In truth, thing is much worst, because you wont get 1 US dollar anywhere (nor banks, financial orgs, or privates will sell it for that price). On the market is close to

1 US Dollar = 360 Argentinian Pesos.

Are you referring to Twitter right?
Re:FTX to file for U.S. bankruptcy, CEO resigns on Friday November 11, 2022 @01:49PM (#33564974)
19th century, or 2008. It’d be same.
Re:FTX Token, FTT down by more than 80% in less than 24 hours on Tuesday November 08, 2022 @03:33PM (#33523917)
I have seen a disproportionally bigger number of blowups of highly regulated industries, so does not seem like a strong argument IMO.
Re:Toyota CEO talks about why he isn’t all-in on EVs on Monday October 03, 2022 @05:33AM (#33065227)
My 82 years old, disabled dad disagrees that this is a good idea.
Re:Brazilian vote counting (real time) on Sunday October 02, 2022 @06:05PM (#33060788)
Independent of the results, I find it truly amazing how fast results are available for the public. Literally every refresh shows hundreds of thousands of new votes already verified and counted.

South America and South Asia are not "free world"? What does that mean?
Turning away pacients? Really?
Re:Parler CEO says he was fired by board on Wednesday February 03, 2021 @09:08PM (#26021737)
Not entirely sure if its a comparable case, but first thing that comes to my mind is 2011 PSN outage[1]. I guess any change of that magnitude should take an unprecedent effort to resolve.

Re:We Don't Sell Ads (2012) on Friday January 08, 2021 @04:07PM (#25690517)
19 billion dollars for WhatsApp. I cant think of a better deal than that on entire human history.
Re:Google Poly is shutting down on Wednesday December 02, 2020 @11:17AM (#25277793)
Maybe Google should label those experimental products more clearly, so users are aware and align expectations.
I was playing around a bit and it really looks promising! There's some key missing features (like, selecting multiple items) and bugs (ctrl + v not working for me at least), but as an MVP is remarkable. Thanks for sharing.
But Tim S. explicitly said that he did not ask for special treatment. This is just that.
Although configuration can be a bit problematic at first, the benefits of using Storybook are clear. In my previous job, the typical question of "Is there a component for something like <X>?" was pretty much resolved going to Storybook and check for it.
Amazing job, this is fantastic. And also great that you can get access to the code.
Re:Smokers quit in record numbers amid Covid fears on Wednesday July 15, 2020 @09:13PM (#23854603)
This is my case, although with a little caveat. I used to smoke 1 pack (20 cigars) per day, but right at the same time that I read that COVID-19 was more dangerous for smokers, my preferred brand (Gold Leaf) got discontinued. Im not superstitious, but this was kind of "Yeah, this is the moment". Was smoker for more than 15 years.
Re:Brazilian authorities suspend WhatsApp payments on Wednesday June 24, 2020 @10:24AM (#23628204)
This. I was surprised a year ago or so when I last travel to US that Wap was not ubiquitous like in pretty much the rest of the world.
Thats the DNA of pretty much any profit based oganization.
There are places that are really risky to drive to. In Buenos Aires, ie, it was reported that multiple Uber drivers got physically attacked by taxi drivers when they got identified on downtown. In some countries, like Brazil, there are some really risky areas where driver could potentially put his/her life at risk. Areas where not even police can access.
Capitalism is not only successful on economic matters. Poverty, for example, got reduced significantly during the last decades.
Re:How Facebook Avoids Ad Blockers on Tuesday December 03, 2019 @05:15AM (#21691223)
Although I share hour feelings, is not that easy either. I have family all over the world, and facebook is the best way to get communicated with them.
Seven days from Dallas to China? How is this considered a serious alternative to current planes?
