Re:Uber lays off 435 people on Tuesday September 10, 2019 @03:45PM (#20932777)
If they raise prices the ridership will drop. It is not clear if they will be able to increase revenue by raising prices.
This can be tax deductible if you use HSA (Health Savings Account)

Re:MongoDB's Server Side Public License Is Likely Unenforceable on Thursday October 25, 2018 @04:33PM (#18304348)
That takes some level of hypocrisy - you are not making your Atlas as opensource, but you require others to do so. This clearly indicates that you are using an opensource license as an extortion schema against competitors.
This is an Oracle propaganda that coincides with Oracle OpenWorld and their push against AWS https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/24/oracles-larry-ellison-keep...
Re:MongoDB switches up its open source license on Tuesday October 16, 2018 @03:56PM (#18232676)
> IANAL but I don't see how it satisfies part 9 of the OSI Definition, or the DFSG. As DannyBee already mentioned, it's also incompatible with other existing open-source licenses. Why do they want to continue calling it "open source"? It sounds like they really just want to be a proprietary database.

They want to charge money and have control as a proprietary database. But they want to keep a label "open source" purely for marketing purposes.

The trick question here is - "Open Source the service" - under what license? Does it also have to be SSPL, or it can be any OpenSource license?

Re:New Project: ZGC – “Z Garbage Collector” for Java on Wednesday October 25, 2017 @07:00PM (#15555029)
Run Apache Spark on the box with 256+ GB of RAM. The GC stalls by 60 or more seconds are quite typical for heavy queries. I hope new GC will bring improvements.
Re:Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL Compatibility on Tuesday October 24, 2017 @10:48PM (#15547045)
Amazon is a real parasite on open source projects, it never gives back.
