If the above is already done, a country specific repository list would be even better.
Id also recommend attending some tech events -- Chennai Geeks (http://blog.chennaigeeks.com/) or ilugc (http://www.ilugc.in/). You will get a chance to meet people who have startups and would be ready to take your services, maybe for a lesser salary than what you get at big SIs. But what you learn there will definitely help you in the future.
Good luck!
On the original topic, nice work. I will definitely be looking at mongoose.
What do you do when idempotency is not possible? If you have Relational databases, how do folks tackle this?
I can understand that it would be excellent for storing search indexes and non-relational databases though.
Are you planning on opensourcing the project?
But as I get more experience on the site, I stopped bidding for low bid projects as the back and forth between buyer and seller takes a lot of time (for e.g. some sellers expect that you do a prototype before accepting the bid) and it does not work out for the amount bid for.
As for payment, Ive never had an issue with RentaCoder, Ive tried both snail mail and PayPal and they both have been fantastic.
My experience has been this: I only work for 2 or 3 clients now on Rentacoder because that takes all the time I have. They have been repeat buyers for me and keep giving more projects as I finish the current ones.
Ares has been tested on:
* OSX: Safari 4.0+, Firefox 3.5+
* Windows: Chrome 3, 4, Firefox 3.5+, Safari 4.0+
* Linux: Firefox 3.5+FTA, it looks like the UI is based on bespin which uses canvas. I tried on FF 3 and Opera 10. Could that be a problem
That said, Ive been more successful looking at the forums of an open source project, figure out what problems folks have and trying to solve them. You will be amazed to see how much you can learn about the code base and undocumented features solving those problems.
1. Please use a mechanism for tracking all files I have uploaded (whether custom registration, openid whatever). Without that, this looks like it can be used only once unless you are capable of remembering those ids that appear in the URL (http://www.doxela.com/manage/777656602.php).
2. Provide the upload form at all times as that is the main purpose of your site. For e.g. If I did not enter a filename, the error appears on the front page and I cant find the upload form anymore
3. The URLs (for manage) seem to be having more slashes as I move through every page. Not a problem, but just ugly URLs if I have to share those.
4. There are much better uploaders available with progress indicators. Using a simple file upload control works, but would be much better to use a better upload control
Of all, I would only like (1) above as the absolute must.
The other advantage I can think of is to see if a better configuration would help scalability needs. For e.g. if I think a x-bit x-core box would work better for my app, there isnt a need to buy the whole thing before knowing it does no good. I could just pick one from the cloud and pay only for usage.
Would be nice to integrate keyboard shortcuts in there as well. Good job though.
IMO, having more than one job is just going to split your thoughts and wouldnt help much in either of them.
