No, this is a company preventing people from selling a previously published (and purchased) copy of a book. This is book banning.

How? By outfitting it with facilities so that he can claim it has medical applications?

Re:Amazon hires 427,000 people in 10 months on Saturday November 28, 2020 @05:44PM (#25241185)
I buy a number of personal products somewhat regularly. Things like deodorant, beard oil, toothbrush heads, etc. There are also things like pet treats and with one click it's pretty easy for people to purchase four or five things as they go through their day.
Personally I hate the trend toward video content. I prefer to read as I can skim and highlight the important content as I see fit.
The Apple Store will take any phone in any condition and recycle it for you.
You are correct. The diameter should be 6 feet and the radius 3 feet.

The governor made it statewide earlier today
At this point I’d consider it more likely than not.
Re:Apple may have to abandon Lightning connector cable on Friday January 17, 2020 @03:39AM (#22072937)
It's also significantly stronger. The lightning connector is male on the cable and female on the device whereas USB-C has a female connection on the end of the cable and is more prone to damaging the male port on the device.

In addition, there is a newly discovered phenomenon called a stormquake. As storms become more powerful due to climate change, we may also see increased seismic activity.

That's disingenuous. Obviously the echo is capable of far more than purchasing things from amazon. I'd guess that most echo users don't actually ever use voice purchasing.

The road system seems pretty structured and we still have road signs.
Re:Ask HN: Feasible Alternative to the MacBook Pro? on Sunday October 20, 2019 @04:29PM (#21306875)
Your failure to understand how your comment could be considered "objectifying" is your own. The reasoning has been explained to you. Saying those who would point it out to you are on a "witch hunt" reveals a serious lack of reflection on your part.

What people are saying is that you should use an analogy that does not involve touching women in ways they do not want to be. Regardless of whether it "makes sense" to you, outwardly it feels degrading—especially that specific sentence that multiple people have pointed out to you.
Re:Samsung: Anyone's thumbprint can unlock Galaxy S10 phone on Friday October 18, 2019 @02:39PM (#21293968)
From your link:

The process described above proved to be somewhat unreliable as the depth of the ridges created by the toner was a little too shallow. Therefore an alternative process based on the same principle was utilized and has been demonstrated in an extended video available here. First, the residual fingerprint from the phone is either photographed or scanned with a flatbed scanner at 2400 dpi. Then the image is converted to black & white, inverted and mirrored. This image is then printed onto transparent sheet at 1200 dpi. To create the mold, the mask is then used to expose the fingerprint structure on photo-senistive PCB material. The PCB material is then developed, etched and cleaned. After this process, the mold is ready. A thin coat of graphite spray is applied to ensure an improved capacitive response. This also makes it easier to remove the fake fingerprint. Finally a thin film of white wood glue is smeared into the mold. After the glue cures the new fake fingerprint is ready for use."

I'm not sure I would classify a process like that as being similar to putting a screen protector on.

Re:Hong Kong protest safety app banned from iOS store on Thursday October 03, 2019 @07:53AM (#21145925)
The app was not taken down. It never made it through the initial review process to get to the store in the first place.
I highly doubt any officers anywhere are trained to fire a warning shot, much less a precise disabling shot in the leg. When you fire your weapon, it is with the intent to kill.
As of this writing the protester in question was injured, not killed.

Re:Too Many Video Streaming Choices May Drive Users Back To Piracy on Wednesday September 18, 2019 @08:03AM (#21004387)
iTunes regularly has sales on The Office complete series for $30. Someone who chases a single show through streaming services is not doing it right.
Shelflife has always been a big hurdle to cooking for me, and I’m a bachelor.
This would skip a lot of the sites that buy ads from Google in the first place. They'd probably rather just purchase it and shut it down.
Re:Regarding the Em Dash on Sunday January 07, 2018 @12:54AM (#16089492)
I tend to use parentheses in the way that it appears most people are using the emdash (like in your second example).
Right, but that content doesn't seem to escape that specific subreddit (Or if it does, it is quickly voted down to oblivion). So in the context of moderators having to view objectionable content all day it is either content they don't mind viewing, or neatly packaged so it can be banned entirely if it is illegal.
I would expect that social media websites whose content is largely decided democratically (via votes, shares, or the like) would relegate the majority of this content to a place where it is not seen by many. I would argue that the best way to handle this issue is to let the sites mechanisms deal with the content accordingly and then focus efforts on developing processes that will be able to detect and remove it automatically.

The article implies that they are forcing moderators to view the content at a high clip. Why, so as to get false positives back online as quickly as possible? Maybe moderators should only review content that reaches a certain threshold of complaint, and other content is left as is?
