Surprisingly it is. Thought it was dead in the water especially against VRChat. But it is continuously worked on and if I did get that right it will get a new engine as well. Accidently hopped into some worlds recently as they are (annoyingly) promoting it heavily in the quest library. And there are plenty of worlds with many players, 99% of which being small kids it feels.
Another shout out goes to maxr: https://www.maxr.org/ It's an open source clone of M.A.X. - Mechanized Assault and Exploration. An imho excellent turn based strategy game that has aged very well. It's pretty much multiplayer only though.

You can check this one out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-JX3ZPi720

But like with all stuff VR, to "get it" you really have to experience it in VR. Especially how different this feels from 360 pics (stereoscopic or not) or photogrammetrie isn't obvious I think if you haven't seen it yourself.

Portal Stories: VR was made by a modding team, not by Valve.
