From the page you just linked, Jobs's birth father was "the son of a self-made millionaire".
Did you?
I suspect it's not so much that he can't take more time off, but that he doesn't want to.

It's not impossible to solve those types of problems if you prepare ahead of time. I think that problem just requires dynamic programming/memoization, which is one of the things you're told to study beforehand.

Please, tell us how you really feel

I thought the fact that messages and photos are kept was a feature. As in, I can scroll back a decade in my photo albums and look at pictures from my high school graduation.

The fact that they are not is the whole basis of targeted advertising.
Re:DARE: The Anti-Drug Program That Never Actually Worked on Saturday October 03, 2015 @10:38PM (#10326199)
The difference is most people snorkeling for the first time do it with an instructor who is very much interested in their well-being. I don't think the guy who sells you LSD is gonna lose sleep if you happen to develop a lifelong mental condition.
Re:DARE: The Anti-Drug Program That Never Actually Worked on Saturday October 03, 2015 @01:02AM (#10322682)
I think it's a bit misleading to simply say "LSD is great and you should try it". It can be interesting, but also can be scary as fuck, and you should be in a good place mentally before trying it.

Was it ever not normal?

My "screw this" moment was when I discovered you needed an internet connection to play Minesweeper.
Sounds like it was based on the "terrorist"-ness of his name, i.e. whether the name is on a watchlist, which (rightfully or wrongfully, in the West) correlates with "Muslimness".
I dunno, I slept in my office in grad school. It wasn't out of needing to feel like a hard worker or showing off or whatever, it was more that sometimes I just felt like working until I was about to fall asleep, and then I was too tired to head home.
Back in the day, I think many people equated AOL with "The Internet".
Why don't we ask the people who currently have no internet what they'd prefer?
Re:I noticed some disturbing privacy defaults in Windows 10 on Thursday July 30, 2015 @06:40PM (#9978717)
I mean, if you wanted to be sure you wouldn't get caught with your mistress, you basically would have to wear a bag on your head, no? Or at least her meet her indoors. You certainly wouldn't complain about invasion of privacy when your wife's friend sees you with the mistress on a date.

There's a big 'X' in the upper right corner of the box you can click to make it go away.

Psychedelics have never helped me solve a complex mathematical problem, but they did help me solve some complex social problems.
Re:What Makes Founders Succeed on Saturday July 25, 2015 @01:53PM (#9948354)
Perhaps the point isn't that people with these traits always succeed, but rather that people who succeed all have these traits.
Re:The Death of Cash on Saturday July 25, 2015 @12:34PM (#9948088)
For me, the only use case of cash is "The tiny fraction of vendors who don't accept debit."

Oh, and I guess under-the-table payments.

It's probably worth pointing out that Good Educator != Good Author. I have heard from people who would know that your guess is not so far off, but having taken classes from him I can attest he is an excellent teacher in addition to being a world class mathematician.

I also want to add that although he is extremely friendly and helpful, it'd be dishonest to say he isn't a bit weird. However, that is probably just an ingredient/consequence of greatness; I reckon most of the big name tech founders discussed on these forums are a bit weird.

IMO the best choice for a calendar is three separate boxes clearly labeled "MM", "DD", and "YYYY" in some order, preferably with the property that once the second (or fourth) character is typed, the cursor is automatically tabbed over to the next box.
Probably doesn't need to be said here, but I would also add in: Don't neglect computer science.
Re:Dear Google Mail Team on Friday July 17, 2015 @09:31PM (#9906239)
A few months ago, I wrote a simple Android app and put it on the Play Store. Now every two weeks I receive unsolicited spammy emails about ad campaigns and increasing user awareness. Funny how those get through the filter.
Agreed, though I would genuinely like to see a rebuttal.

Counter-Strike does, and I say this as a Mario fanboy.
Is it generally accepted in the relevant scientific communities that male IQ's exhibit more variance than female IQ's? I imagine this type of thing would be easy to verify via e.g. standardized test scores.
Re:This Industry is Fucked on Sunday July 05, 2015 @09:53PM (#9836178)
If someone sent you an email every day from different email addresses with the same text saying they were going to rape and murder you, and included your home address, pictures of your family and pictures of weapons, that wouldn't bother you?

How do you know there are no real-world consequences? You're just gonna assume it's some 14-year-old kid trolling you and not one of the many insane people in this world who might actually do something? Based on a hunch?
