This is a better blurb https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44498576, your knew one is a set of instructions. I think it just needs to be a little clearer, you're on the right track with the second post to focus on something more concrete but it's better to show your whole thing instead of some subthing of the thing.
You should mail questions like this to the moderators at [email protected]

The mishap is not the chatbot accidentally getting too extreme and at odds with 'Elon's centrist stuff'. The mishap is the chatbot is too obvious and inept about Musk's intent.
Re:BBC staff: we're forced to do pro-Israel PR on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @11:28AM (#44511276)
experienced similar attacks

That's a very good reason not to reach for dehumanizing tropes like 'vile scum' on HN or really anywhere else.

Re:HN is censoring news about X / Twitter on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @11:22AM (#44511170)
You can mail such questions to [email protected] or search dang's comments for the years of explainers of the things that happen with posts of that nature.
A US presidential candidate got shot and people flagged that. How would one even assess this 'rigor' without considering the things that never made it to begin with.

There was also at least one giant thread about the Grok South Africa thing.

Re:Why LLM Authorization is Hard on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @10:58AM (#44510812)
Right, because otherwise you end up with a split discussion and people miss stuff, moderators end up having to merge them, etc. Immediate followups count as dupes (in HN's weird dupery algebra), they're better off linked in the active thread.

It's neither clickbait nor misleading, just a spider.
Re:Show HN: Git for Normies on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @07:12PM (#44504855)
You just had a big Show HN https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44394051 so you probably want to give this a few weeks for the hivemind caches to clear (even though it's a different thing) and repost it then.
Re: on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @06:20PM (#44504557)
"Responsible disclosure policies" are mostly vendor exhortations to people who do a public service (finding vulnerabilities and publicly disclosing them) not to embarrass them too much. The fact they contain silly boilerplate is probably just a function of their overall silliness.
I fixed the confusing bit, thanks. I'm not persuaded by the reasoning because I don't see how the reasoning is relevant - we're talking about a specific dickish comment in a specific social place with its specific norms. These are so well understood and established the comment got flagblasted by users and moderator scolded on top of that - effectively the maximum penalty/public shaming an HN comment can get. It's not a hypothetical different context in which some kind of hypothetical value eventually comes from such comments - the bad comment and the bad subthread are concretely in front of us.
I linked it because it explains why the story is not a good HN story and it's not because of the Appleinside blogspam - to my reading, the modcomment is fairly clear about that. You can mail [email protected] if you want them to take another look at it.

The HN-meaning of 'significant new information' includes 'is it going to produce a significantly different discussion'. It's not going to produce a significantly different discussion than the one last week as far as I can tell but that's an argument you can make yourself.

Re:Radium – The Music Editor on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @01:48PM (#44502331)
There's no analogy or wall of text that makes that comment unshitty and inviting of conversation. It's not a thing one should do on HN because it trashes the place. We resolve this by striving to control our own reflexive dickishness and downvoting/flagging the egregiously dickish comments, which is exactly what happened here.
No, there's also /shownew so it's not just that.

this wouldn't apply then?

Why not? Looks like a completely reasonable Show HN. Could probably use a better blurb i.e. 'tune for HN-interestingness' like I mentioned above.

Have you looked at this, for instance https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22336638

It's linked at the top of the Show HN page. You can also email the mods for help with a submission you think is a good HN submission but didn't get much attention.

Re:Programming Language Switching Sociology: Be a Human on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @10:27AM (#44500320)
My last post, "Programming Language Switching Politics", got some pretty solid attention.

It doesn't appear to have, at least not on HN?

Now back to our topic.

Still looks like fluffy, LLM-infused SEO effort for a gizmo and t-shirts store.

I find the idea of removing the incentive to find the best time to post interesting.

That's, more or less, what the second chance pool attempts to do. As do subcategories like https://news.ycombinator.com/show which effectively extend the 'visible time in queue' for Show HN posts.

I think the underexamined assumption in a lot of these analyses is that it's hard to get a post on the HN front page. But in reality, it's relatively straightforward with a whole pile of backup mechanisms. The mystique of 'magical posting hour' draws people in but it's a lot simpler to just produce a post that matches HN's (fairly broad and loose) interestingness criteria.

Re:BBC staff: we're forced to do pro-Israel PR on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @09:56AM (#44500013)
It's better to link the things you want to use as examples because otherwise we aren't really talking about anything concrete. The thread on this submission is awful, for instance - so that's my first link.

Re:BBC staff: we're forced to do pro-Israel PR on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @12:56AM (#44497201)
It's not some theoretical 'divisive', you can read how these threads go yourself, including this one. The meta discussions also make these a lot worse so it's hard to blame this on some 'small number' of people.
Hectoring someone to 'stop doing this' is not 'starting a conversation', it's just hectoring.
Re:Show HN: AI Power Internal Tools on Monday July 07, 2025 @05:48PM (#44495014)
You could post this when you're ready to have people try it but waitlists can't be Show HNs, take a look at https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html
Re:Show HN: Cursor's "Tab" Model in the Browser on Monday July 07, 2025 @05:04PM (#44494651)
Grammarly, LLM code assistants, etc tell you upfront that this is happening and the type of info sent over is at least somewhat constrained. 'Everything I do in the browser, to multiple internet strangers' is a much bigger hurdle, especially without clear information. I think you need to figure out some way to safely demonstrate this to (informed) users - as it is, it feels far too iffy to even try which somewhat defeats the purpose of a Show HN.
Megathread the other day https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44478279, among many.
