Yeah not doing that

Maybe the llama.cpp dev loved webpack as a child, or just loves making the most simple thing complicated as hell for no reason lol
Love this model, MiniMax and Vidu are the only "AI" I've ever paid for.

Given money to 2 different companies for access to this one (Hailou, Kling).

LLMs were never a market for me, video was at first, but this may be all I need moving forward.

I almost never see anyone talk about Vidu such as their Q3 series - the one I have paid most for and use most.

Material existence != a guy flying around in space listening to your thoughts
I'm starting to realize I'm the only one who couldn't.

I think that's why I failed that Leetcode that one time - it was never in the cards

Feeling depressed? Ask your doctor about Glumaway

Noooo come on We're not saying "Gloom" that's just the chemical.

Glumiphosphoroxate It treats mild whimsies.

Have one??????

YOU GOT ONE?

Come on in. Oh yeah. You have it. You definitely fucking have it LOL. Here take 2 of these.

Glumaway

You're one of us now.

If you aren't all over The Hard Problem I have to ask what you're doing
Dynamic Pricing

Bad for consumers.

Great for e-ink device manufacturers.

Now we got this e-ink UI dev.

I don't like it one bit Tony

Your comment reveals you were not around then.

Go was absolutely not mainstream in 200 fucking 9. When Flash dominated the web and everyone did Wordpress for websites. Nobody (at large) did Go before they did Node.

You are pointing to extremely early design discussions you absolute twat. Get real. Anyone who was active in their career in ~2013 knows that's exactly when Go came out.

I am from San Francisco and lived here my whole life - and it wasn't the epicenter of tech then (2013) but Mountain View sure as fuck was, and it's like 45m away and I would fucking know if Go was written in 2009 and it wasn't.

You're a liar. Go away

> You're just a fleeting experience of a Boltzmann Brain in the background of high entropy universe.

Love that. Beside the point, I know, but still.

And you know... I can't really say it isn't the case. Even within this body and ~90 years, it is the case.

Weird shit

Yeah goes to show why Leetcode is such a problem for so many very good developers.

It's a different kind of thinking.

That said, if that "clicked" for you, you may find yourself surprisingly good at backend - algorithmic thinking shines in crypto, search, and LLMs. Get into Python or Node if you haven't for some random idea (ever wanted to make a web contact form or something?) - the LLMs will set you up for success. If you figured out Rubik's Cube, you will 1000% get it because I know you have the patience and learning ability.

Well if you want! I should preface...

The Rubik's Cube will get you laid quicker than the Python dev (these days)

There was a time you could show an offer letter and have babes dangling from your god damn nutsack, but that ship has sailed

One time a startup I worked at (NOT YC THIS TIME) had a "secret shopper"[1]

[1] Some old guy who I'm pretty sure was a severe alcoholic

Send us Gmail links that were 1000000000% obviously fake, like from a fake version of the CEO saying to wire him cash.

I opened the email in gmail to copy the text to Slack, and was like "Did anyone else get this?"

One other guy goes "lol yeah wtf"

Next day in standup, security alcoholic is there. He goes:

"2 people opened the malicious email"

I'm like dude. Nothing will fucking happen if you open the Gmail message We didn't DOWNLOAD anything or visit any URLs.

No. In the boomer mind, we were retards. We should be fired. We weren't, but we should have been. ???????

I'm like "GUYS" "I have some React components to make, what the fuck are you doing today?????"

There are so many instances I wish code was removed from "the pedestal" and just treated how it is. I don't care if that makes it $30/hr work at this point, I just can't handle the pretentiousness anymore especially around faux security

Hahaha nightmare. Like I'm pretty sure I had that nightmare
Hahah what are you doing here???

I had a friend - David - he could do it insanely quick. He's basically who I am thinking of in my post since he was also a genius at guitar, and could play beautifully.

We spent a lot of time on your site on random Friday nights (him playing guitar) hahah, good times.

More of a yo-yo guy myself. I could walk the dog, pendulum, what-have-you. Around the world if I'm feeling saucy

How did the kid who could solve the Rubik's Cube in under 1 min not become an algorithm designer - some genius backend dev?

I blame guitars.

All these kids got bad ass at playing Wonderwall, PHP was just slightly less cool than playing Wonderwall. So for 2-4 years they were sidetracked.

Playing Wonderwall at parties.

But if they had went straight from solving Rubik's Cube in 1 min to O(1) time complexity in a REST endpoint like peak 2-way communications (WebSocket, GRPC) these fuckers would be optimizing LLM embeddings at this point.

Karpathy? No, I want Steve from the Chess club who could recite any J.R.R. Tolkien writing, who has a Runescape character worth $4 million. Fuck LeCunn. Where's Steve?!

STEVE! I'm sorry I laughed at your Pokemon collection. I'm sorry Steve! I'm fucking sorry! PLEASE COME BACK

They’re gonna shove a pineapple up your ass in Hell you bad boy
Someone should investigate, interview me.

They violated their termination agreement with me already when they went way out of their way to make sure I would not get hired at certain other companies when I left.

That's fair
Re:Because It's Not Fun Enough: why languages fail on Monday August 10, 2026 @12:48PM (#49246256)
In 2010 I was doing Flash/AS3 (professionally) and Wordpress sites, but yeah, maybe.

I don't doubt it has a searchable history back to 2010.

Re:Mistral Patent for "Code implemented tool calls" on Monday August 10, 2026 @12:43PM (#49246185)
Getting a patent on software is mid-brain mid-manager shit to pad marketing and inflate egos, doesn't really do anything.

I could copy this "design" exactly and it would be totally fair to use. Exhibit 270 is my favorite

Novel bro, novel.

If Apple lost the "Swipe" patent on a device they pioneered, your standard HTTP API is probably not that original.

Re:Because It's Not Fun Enough: why languages fail on Monday August 10, 2026 @12:33PM (#49246015)
Haha, try 2013. You were not around then ;)

Go 1.0 was released in 2013 (I don't even think the "official date" of March 28, 2012 is correct, or at least, nobody had heard of it).

Apple doing Swift and Google doing Go was basically in response to Node.js

> but I distinctly remember learning Go on Windows in 2009 and building web apps

Very highly doubt it

> Billionaire candy heiress Jacqueline Mars avoided jail time after pleading guilty to misdemeanor reckless driving for an October 4, 2013, crash in Aldie, Virginia. Her Porsche SUV crossed the center line and hit a minivan, killing 86-year-old Irene Ellisor and causing the loss of an unborn child. She received a $2,500 fine.

Just a bad bunch huh??? Guillotine

Cheez-Its: 1 lb, down to 13.7 oz, then 12.4 oz, now 7 oz. 100% cheese product is now just salt, whey, yeast powder blend (they're allowed to call that cheese).
> this just doesn't fly

How dare you. And to your point, you'd never catch me on one of those paraglider things!

> Oh I'd say, yes, a license is a good idea, simply given how often developers put in stuff from marketing that violates laws.

My only license is MIT

Prove Zeus didn't fart the Earth into existence, otherwise that's what happened
Re:Because It's Not Fun Enough: why languages fail on Monday August 10, 2026 @11:55AM (#49245365)
Node.js came way before Go. If you fact-check with AI, it will say "Go was invented in 2009" but anyone who has been around knows it's more like ~2013.

Node.js was 90% of the inspiration for Go to exist in the first place.

Swift also would have never came about if it wasn't for people doing iOS way better in JavaScript.

SwiftUI is basically React conceptually

If you knew anything about payment systems, you'd know you get a nonce or receiptID and it is a front-end only thing. You don't do the backend banking yourself.

Maybe your backend sends an email, or saves the receipt, but that's peripheral.

The entire Payments flow is front-end capture, then the service doing all the actual backend payment part. It's a black box from your end and you can decide to do it entirely front-end if you wanted. There's no way around it.

Allow me to introduce you to: Burden of Proof.
Commercial aviation involves other people's lives in real-time. I put that more like being a lifeguard or EMT.

Recreational aviation has a lot less regulation. I saw a guy with nothing but a fan and a parachute just flying around the cliffs off Hwy 1. No license or certification needed.

Shouldn't need a license to make React components, sorry.

The entire reason the company was funded is the US government started enforcing FCRA compliance on 1099 Uber drivers.

So the government did get involved and regulated Uber and the entire gig economy, and the private sector is so powerful they just made their own background check company with hundreds of millions of dollars in VC and hype, gave them Uber as their flagship customer and wiped their hands.

No doubt in my mind these people were "just happy to be here" at best, criminals at worst, and have no business working with PII and background checks. Founders and everyone there.

But I still think the company should be found liable, not an individual engineer. They would be a lot more incentivized to hire based on merit, and not incentivized to literally be corrupt like they are now.

With your idea of punishing the engineer... these VCs would love that. Shift even more blame onto the worker, why not, we've taken it for everything else
