this is impacting scientific research to the point that people are scrubbing the word "gender" from their papers to avoid their research programs getting flagged by the doge gestapo
yes, exactly! you get it.
i'm not saying they do it intentionally. i am saying that they should deal with the consequences and not let taxpayers take the downside while they take the upside
Re:EU plans 'right to repair' rules for phones and tablets on Thursday March 12, 2020 @06:46AM (#22555436)
they should focus on making rules around product obsolescence. phones and computers should work with latest OS for 10 years or more
they produce software that is vulnerable to exploitation by criminals
why is this surprising? because they are cleaning up a mess of their own making instead of making taxpayers foot the bill?
not so sure. the way of thinking i got from university professors has been invaluable. it is the meta-skills that count

there is no material difference: if your water is cutoff, the reason does not matter. it just seems incredibly shortsighted to put the entire population in danger because of a few dollars
please explain how someone that has their water cut off still has access to water
that's barbaric

it sounds like it needs some other ingredients. possibly it makes starch break down to sugar quicker? like what saliva does to starch?

Re:ARMed mac: not again or for real this time? on Tuesday March 10, 2020 @10:11AM (#22535567)
the problem comes in when your apps break and the only way to fix them is to fork out even more money for software upgrades. for music production i have been badly burnt and have moved to hardware synth that will last decades and a mac with logic that will never see another upgrade ever.
the money is not from other entities. it is literally made up based on a fraction of the reserves the bank holds.

not sure why you are being downvoted as if fractional reserve banking is not the status quo

Re:Trading halted as U.S. stocks plummet on Monday March 09, 2020 @11:13AM (#22526021)
how is this "circuit breaker" meant to help? surely it will just fuel emotions and make things worse if people can't get rid of stock they don't want?
Re:South Korea is composting its way to sustainability on Monday March 09, 2020 @10:39AM (#22525699)
have you tried putting the worm bins directly into the soil with the bottom cut out? It is a permaculture technique and i believe the soil keeps temperature relatively stable. I am in scotland and it never gets below -4 degrees celsius or above 25.

i'm looking at getting worm composting going for food scraps. being vegan means i can feed all my food scraps to the worms
why would you use a business vehicle to transport a family
maybe not a percentage cut of revenue but some kind of SAAS-like pricing model?
possibly a market for replacing this software with open source versions?

to me "inhibit" means more like dampening or lessening something while "prohibit" means stopping something completely
