> Polish hard-right member of the European Parliament Piotr Müller said the rules are an example of over-regulation gone wild

This is almost an endorsement of the rules to me.

Just sent this to my son, seems legitimately promising
Re:Why I Program in Lisp on Friday April 11, 2025 @03:29PM (#43657556)
what are the bonkers parts? (just curious)
Impressive that this made it to number 1 on hacker news. The politics of the readers here is pretty interesting
Re:AI Guesses Your Accent on Wednesday December 11, 2024 @05:08PM (#42393548)
I would pay for an equivalent app that helped my German pronunciation
Re:As you learn Forth, it learns from you (1981) on Sunday June 23, 2024 @04:59PM (#40770545)
r/forth is a subreddit - so https://<reddit url>/r/forth
Feels like a "lot" of things help rats for whatever reason though
I'm not sure Peter Thiel believes in anything resembling "egalitarian enlightenment era principles" unfortunately
haha, worth a try
Granted, Fermats Last Theorem is a tricky proof so I understand it struggling with it

got a laugh out of this line. Sounds almost like a modern day Monty Python skit (John Cleese voice) And then I asked it to give back instructions for making cold fusion work and the results, well, frankly they were incredibly disappointing to say the least

I think you mean tutelage instead of tuition there (I could be wrong)
started as a C programmer on DOS servers (believe it or not) The network was a token ring. Used Brief as an editor and we had some key-value database that was always getting corrupted (can't even remember the name)

I do remember liking Brief a lot though

Didn't exactly position me well for the future, haha

Re:Thoughts on the potato diet on Monday July 11, 2022 @03:21PM (#32060540)
remember vaguely reading in some book (Jared Diamond?) that at one time the poor in Ireland lived almost entirely on potatoes and milk - and that they were much healthier in general than the richer elites. Apparently those two items + some green veggies are enough.
Re:Half Baked on Friday May 06, 2022 @02:55PM (#31288573)
I was also impressed and surprised by how much time they spent screwing around singing with goofy voices and the like
Re:A wild turkey is attacking people in D.C. on Friday May 06, 2022 @11:56AM (#31286669)
When I was little my Dad had an aggressive turkey (well it would let my Dad pet it but no one else) I generally kept our Rottweiler between me and the turkey when I was anywhere near it
Re:Universe Splitter on Monday February 28, 2022 @10:35AM (#30500937)
I listened to a talk by David Deutsch and he talks about creating an quantum computer based AI and then asking the AI if there are other worlds - (hope I'm not remembering this wrong)
Re:Ask HN: Who wants to collaborate? on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @12:39PM (#30166153)
I'd be interested in building a listening comprehension tool for foreign language learners. I'm thinking having a slider for vocab (top 1000 words, top 2000 words, etc) and a slider for speed of speech plus an adjustable timer for how long the user has to understand the sentence.
Many of these tournaments won't allow an offered draw before move ... 40 or something like that.

Advogato is a blast from the past
Re:The Art of Not Thinking on Monday August 03, 2020 @01:51PM (#24040984)
I think this was pretty much the topic of one of his books
Re:Ken Thompson's Unix Password on Wednesday October 09, 2019 @05:16PM (#21208184)
One good thing about using dvorak I guess
My feeling about Stallman is that he is that rare creature, a fundamentalist lefty. Its a pretty lonely island and I'm actually a little surprised he has lasted this long
Re:Chess Is the Killer App on Thursday November 15, 2018 @07:34AM (#18458725)
My kids think I'm weird for watching chess but it is a perfect background show to have on - baseball is the other sport that works fairly well. There are also some really fantastic commentators (Peter Svidler and Jan Gustaffson are my favorites). Finally most of the top players are also almost absurdly humble and friendly
Re:The Melancholy of Subculture Society on Monday October 21, 2013 @12:42PM (#6586641)
The multiple overlapping hierarchies stuff is new to me and pretty fascinating. You could probably make a case that whatever benefits Alcoholics Anonymous impart come from providing a community to feel useful and valuable for its members.
Is cycling the most efficient way to extract power from human muscles? I would guess something like deadlift/rowing motion to be better
Re:Monday was my 46th birthday and likely my last on Monday June 17, 2013 @02:54PM (#5895149)
I think it would be nice if we could do something like polymath (from Terry Tao) for medicine. Maybe have a combination of medical experts + statisticians + bright people collaborate on a large scale to tackle some of the health problems out there.
Re:Norvig vs. Chomsky and the Fight for the Future of AI on Wednesday July 25, 2012 @12:12PM (#4291578)
Where is eyudkowski when we need him?
Re:Testing Your Blood Sugar with Your iPhone on Saturday June 16, 2012 @07:58AM (#4120436)
Amen to this and I think the title is a little misleading no? This looks like it is really about testing blood sugar with a regular meter that has a nice connection to upload the data to an iphone. I'm glad there are smart people working on this, but I'm waiting on the quantum leap in this field
Wow, I didn't realize this was something of a white whale. Still sounds like a fun nerd project though so I might spend some time on it
