Anyone who has trialed more than two psychiatric medications learned quickly that providers are basically throwing drugs at the wall to see what sticks for the patient. They know what a drug does, and for what symptoms, but they often have no clear idea why. The brain is wildly complex.

Tao is obviously completely unfamiliar with the PED gray market, and what people are willing to put in their bodies that hasn’t even been verified by the likes of an LLM. If there’s a promise of changing or controlling their corporeality in some way, many people are shockingly cavalier. If it’s because you are going to die, but could live with this experimental treatment, the risk tolerance is that much higher. I agree he’s chosen a pretty tone deaf analogy.

Usefulness relies on understanding, even if that means understanding what is possible to ask for. What is being generated right now is really just a translation from one inscrutable phenomenon into another. In neither case do we have power over the data, because we don’t know what it means, truly where it comes from, and even the beginning of the limits of what the discovery allows. We’ve traded one black box for another, and still need to unpack it.

The craziest part about this is that it will disappear from the HN homepage in a day or two.

Is their overview video doing it for literally anyone at all? I would love to not be infantilized.

Something about this irritated me so much that I even felt compelled to comment. If this ever became a mainstream idea, I would just stop using computers altogether. I am smart enough to mark my own emphasis internally, that is why I have a brain, and one of the advantages of using it.

Many have never seen a really, truly beautiful high modern home, and it shows. Lots of both traditional and modern slop out there, with gems on both sides every once in a while.

I was able to have Astra accurately solid model with plasticity (NOT import from Blender) and presumably it would be trivial with autocad, but I haven’t tried it yet.

We're talking about being ghosted or rejected for applications and interviews. It actually seems very relevant. Details matter. Don't give anyone a reason to reject you, because there are hundreds (or thousands) of applications who are also qualified and ran spellcheck. I'm really not trying to be a jerk.

Really no offense, but in all truth, I would probably skip an application with simple misspellings. Anecdotal is what you're looking for.

Not to mention you can just ask Codex or Claude Code to set up a local LLM for you. Use one tool to set up the other.
Things I have been struggling with Fable over and GPT 5.5, were just solved handily by SOL in a real "thank you, next problem" kind of way. Overall, something that just works is way less wasteful for your usage than struggling back and forth for hours.
Re:Why migrants come to Germany for work and then leave again
on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @09:13PM (#48826232)
My partner and I went to Germany and then left. We found that while they are desperate for skilled labor, they do essentially nothing to accommodate once people have come. Every step of the immigration process felt like another grift. Our Auslanderbörde appointment was borderline hostile, and our lawyer was a certified buffoon. Then daily life was beset with petty corruption. We couldn’t get an appointment at the burgeramt to register until we paid a fixer to go in on our behalf. Germany was full of petty annoyances and indignities that made it clear they want immigrants, but will not put in the effort to retain them. The U.S. is lately no friend to even skilled immigrants, but public government services are at least available in most major European and Asian languages. Go to the Netherlands instead. That’s what we would have done, if we had it to do over again.
