Absolutely, law enforcement in the US is disproportionately not normal people. The system is designed to reject smart people who are not aggressive and have empathy. The system is designed to accept people who will uphold the design of the system.

We have had secure elections for a long time, how is it that the only 2 that Trump has presided over are the ones that are a security concern?

Countless directors and managers are now cosplaying as engineers. I've seen so many myself and that's just my tiny slice of this engineering world

This already exists as something called dot phrases, which most doctors are familiar with. These are typically shared and refined and highly useful. You can find plenty of resources online as well.

This is just a hacky way of doing the same thing, all on your own, and a tremendously silly way to do it. Which makes sense because this is literally just an ad.

Re:The Causes of Long Covid on Friday June 05, 2026 @04:43PM (#48417990)
MCAS is the underlying condition, which is then triggered by a Covid infection. This results in an escalation of baseline symptoms, which is what Long Covid is

Same here. Anyone being even hesitant about AI is viewed negatively by management

Try commenting without using AI
Having long ago built an app that does gamecasts for multiple sports, similar to what you get from ESPN, every sport is completely different. There's almost nothing that matches up, except for the very basic concept of a box score. Even play by play has enough differences to be vastly different
My company has pushed engineering all-in for AI in the last few months

Our stock price has also gone down 70% in the last few months

Naturally, we're pivoting our platform to put AI front and center

What about the dictatorial regime that's bombing schools, falsely imprisoned tens of thousands, murdered far more than 100s, openly admitting to international war crimes?
Re:US economy unexpectedly sheds 92,000 jobs in February on Saturday March 07, 2026 @01:42PM (#47290302)
The state constitution does not forbid an income tax. We both know it is more nuanced than that. Don't accuse me of bad faith in the same comment that you present an inaccuracy in the form of simplification that suits your argument

People aren't leaving Seattle to save a small amount in taxes every year
Re:US economy unexpectedly sheds 92,000 jobs in February on Friday March 06, 2026 @11:23AM (#47277017)
Ahh, another favorite talking point. Yes, because the tax burden is already carried by the people you claim to worry about
Re:US economy unexpectedly sheds 92,000 jobs in February on Friday March 06, 2026 @11:04AM (#47276715)
For readers not in Washington, there is currently legislation being worked on that is essentially a millionaire's tax, (simplified as) 10% income tax on income over 1 million dollars, inflation adjusted.

There are a few very angry, emotional, and vocal opponents of this in most corners of the internet, although very few of them actually make a million dollars and there are many million+ income people supporting this.

Demographically, there are over 3 million households in WA, and only 20k of them would be affected.

Fwiw I thought it was pretty self evident in your OP, and additionally that England is small enough to be a sufficient answer

Their own data reports that they are holding tens of thousands of citizens who have committed no crimes.

They have murdered people in broad daylight and allowing many more to suffer and even die in their facilities.

People are not being hysterical, and the people who are downplaying or ignoring this are showing that they are in fact evil.

Re:Ruby 4.0.0 Released on Friday December 26, 2025 @07:55PM (#46398079)
For future readers, I mistakenly referenced the grpc gem; I was thinking of the gem `gruf` which is a grpc framework
Re:Ruby 4.0.0 Released on Thursday December 25, 2025 @02:59PM (#46386687)
One issue is gems which are locked `ruby < 4.0` which will now require updating, and releasing 4.0 instead of 3.5 was only done very recently.

For a more concrete example, the grpc gem locks Ruby versions (< 3.5), and they refuse to change it. So until they support the next Ruby version, we could test ruby-next by testing with a preview release. This worked for 3.4 and 3.5, but now doesn't work with 4.0 (bundler resolves 4.0-preview2 > 3.5, whereas we are able to do 3.5-preview1).

So unless I feel like doing a lot of grunt work (which I don't), I can't even test Ruby 4 in our app until they release a new version. And while I recognize this is an issue with the gem, it is a consequence of choosing to do 4.0.
